Arm and Hammer detergent

I bought regularly Arm and Hammer detergent even before the recession. Why buy Tides and all other 3x expensive detergents, not any better ?

The downfall...

People must remember quality before quanity. We are broke but our $$$ is spent on things we need; not what we want. Food; and gasoline to get ourselves back and forth to work, if we are lucky enough to have a job. Only buy American products, put our hard earned $$$ back into our own country instead of buying cheap overseas versions. That is America's downfall.

No jobs = no money / No money = no jobs.

Would you like French Fries with your hamberger sir? Not my choice of profession but hey... that's all that there is.

Arm&Hammer Isn't Doing You Any Favors

Arm & Hammer (that good, old American company) makes a toothpaste called "Arm & Hammer Enamel Care". But it's only marketed in countries that have socialized medicine, such as all the member states of the European Union and Canada.

Why? Because this toothpaste contains liquid calcium that remineralizes teeth and repairs tiny cracks in the enamel when you use it regularly twice a day. It does exactly what your American dentist does when you go for that "mandatory" twice a year "professional" cleaning. But of course, it's not available in the USA.

I recommend boycotting Arm & Hammer. It's not fair for this company to be making a big profit on a product that is not as needed as a good healthcare product.

How did you find/measure success?

Great article. I'm interested about how you found/know about these successes. Not because I disagree, but am wondering how to find such info about performance.

times are tough, but...

Its also amazing what deals you can get now. I agree with Cindy, used cars have never been better. (may not apply to all makes and models)

but here in California, you can now get a gently used Bentley for less than a new lexus!

good neighbors

@Kay Burns, this is wonderful what you and your neighbors are doing for wach other. Think how much money, resources etc. people could save if they did more of this kind of cooperating! Community is a wonderful thing!

our needs have boomed!!! reality check

It is hard on a fixed income because of the prices now days.

Buy my clothes on discount or garage sales...fill up my car about twice a month. have four children ..so you can only imagine what food is about. Most people complain about other issues. But poor people complain about needs. And somtimes they are not met.

I don't own credit cards and the only man i owe is my father.i use my finances as wisely as i can. don't let things tempt me knowing i have children and my self to think about. If i can i get extra or when a holliday comes, money or things are given. So I understand recession and depression ...washing clothes in a tub...people giving food out of the kindness of thier heart...hopfully one day i will be doing the same for some one else. Hopfully.

Are you kidding???

My husband and I were never frivolous shoppers to begin with even though we have an excellent household income on his salary alone. I lost my job in 2008 and because of the wonderful economy (not!) have not found much out there. What amazes me are some of these products that BOOMED during the recession. Really? A&H has been around for years from baking soda to kitty litter. This is really a DUH since they have high quality products to begin with. But Hyundai?? No way. A lot of articles talk about buying cheaper in the same breath as buying used. For some higher quality of vehicle, you can buy a much nicer maker/model for the SAME PRICE as a cheaper car maker with a flimsy frame like DaeWoo. Why settle for a Hyundai when I can go and buy a Honda or even an Acura that's slightly used and WAY NICER?? Tupperware has been a joke and the Presto Slicer?? Don't stay up late and you won't be tempted by infomercials.

zenokie

Instead of using paper towels to clean my house-I use old towels that have become worn out or thin. instead of paying for a Wet-jet mops that you have to keep buying replacemen pads-i cut the towels and attact them to my sponge mop head and just them away! Also-barter-I am disabled and can't mow my lawn, but I found an out of work neighbor who is single-he mows my lawn and I clean his house! Lucky for me-another neighbor's wife had to return to work, but they have young children-he does fix-up work around my house and I watch their kids! We both save money!
