My thoughts

People who critisize the unions for the auto industry woes are either forgetting what the purpose of a union are or just plain short sighted. They have made great strides in making a "decent" wages and especially the safety of the workers. Who wants to work for low wages and then at the end of their career have nothing but a goobye as they walk out the door. No retirement, no health care. Good luck in this economy. Or perhaps they could work till the day they die so the "investors" have money for a new golf cart or a second home at the beach. The better you pay an employee the more funding for the local economy. Teachers, firefighters , and all your neighbors. I worked for 38 years in highway construction and now retired I am forever greatful for the benefits they now provide and the safety they demanded while working. One company I worked 22 years for was all union. Today the owner retired a very rich man. His son had a better idea and complained of the high costs of union help. It took him only three years to bankrupt the whole company. I'm certainly not getting rich but at least I have health care and am not homeless. Do the math and tell me how anyone can live in this economy on social security. Before you criticize the unions just take a closer look at the others involved. The stock traders who steal millions , the health care industry with 3 or 4 hundred percent increases. We have "outsourced" our jobs for far too long in the name of greed and now wonder why things are so bad. And let us not forget the bankers with their tricks that created a housing bubble that has blown up in our faces. Those who complain about the union workers getting their fair share to raise their family are far to quick to leave out the greedy so and so's who shipped our jobs overseas. Have any of the unions ask for BILLIONS we now dole out as "necessary" for our economy ? No.... Save our billions and let the banks fail. We need jobs.

GM

Just take a look at pay, benefits, etc. the union demanded and won.

Sloppy work when they were "unhappy". Does not take a loudmouth

union leader to speak out.

Just produce the best product and we can beat the imports.

We have the talents!!!!

GM vs Foreign

I have owned mostly GM with a couple of Fords thrown in there.

Thought I woudl try leasing a Honda Accord. Bad idea, nothing but trans problems. Thankfully I was able to get out of the lease after many trips to the dealer. I will continue to buy

GM and/or Ford from now on.

I buy American I buy Toyota

Toyota has plants in New York, Tennessee,Mississippi, and suppliers from around the USA.

American workers do the work - so the issues are with the Union and the Management of the USA Owned companies.

Poor quality and high prices are the underpinnings of the USA Automobile failure. Start by looking into how Honda and Toyota got to where they are. Otherwise I will buy American made - Foreign owned product.

Take the politics and government out and put American Quality back in...no Union needed there..

Unions

Why do so many people have to be so ignorant, it was the Uaw that stood by Martin Luther King, Caesar Chavez and many other great leaders, rather than trying to bring poeple in Unions down to our level, why dont we try to get to the levels of the Unions?

I hope you have been taking note of other countries that have this "better quality of living" and "better eduacation" universal healthcare, and more vacation than us in the U.S., what we really dont know is how many many unions affect these countries and the decisions they are making that do make sense for the "everyday" people, what i have noticed is in this country we have more of an alegiance for the poeple who hire us rather than the country we are in? Maybe thats where we need to start, if you dont have a problem earning a lower wage beacuse of you sex, ethnicity, age, more power to you, because the time is already here that our own government jobs are being shipped over seas.

All i ask, stop being crabs, if some are making it out alive, we dont need to reach up and do our best to pull our country men down to our level!

God Bless America.

yes, cut unions

No, my mommie stopped taking care of me when she died. I was 19 working on my degree. Needless to say, I came from a lower middle class family and I have busted my back to get where I am today. My family has survived on very little money and we appreciate the money we have now. Your kids don't have to have 15 pair of Gucci jeans and Coach purses because you bleed the economy dry through the union. They can survive on Levi's and New Balance just like a lot of middle class Americans do. Dont like your 350K home, scared you can't afford it, hmmm do like many others, down size. It is better to do with out some and survive comfortably than to do with out totally and live in a "van down by the river". (Chris Farley reference .. sorry..) How many people are in your area that would gladdly work for $15 / hr to be able to put food on the table and clothes on their backs???? Look around, you may actually be surprised by the numbers. Go ask someone working at a minimum wage job, with kids, if they would work hard for $15/hr else where. Majority of people would say "yes". Most would work harder for an $8/hr raise. Wouldn't you? Well, maybe not unless your union rep OK'ed it first. Question smart guy. Did you hear about the ice machine move at the GM factory last week? No, research it. A true one man job actually took 3 union workers. A union contractor to plan and move. A union electrician to UNPLUG and PLUG BACK IN! A union HVAC person to uninstall and reinstall a 3" vent duct. Hmm.. very cost effective wouldn't you say. Think about that the next time you complain about your $700 a month car note.
