Claire's: Comfortable With Its Financial Condition

By Rick Newman

In response to my recent story, "15 Companies That Might Not Survive 2009," Claire's Stores had this to say:

In regard to your recent article, we view your comments about Claire's Stores as highly speculative and irresponsible. Had we had an opportunity to comment prior to publication we would have noted that Claire's has an extremely flexible capital structure with no near term debt maturities and no financial covenants. Furthermore, as of the Company's last report it had $194 million of cash. While the retail business has been difficult lately, Claire's is a value provider well suited for today's times and is comfortable with its financial condition.

Fun and Cute Girlly Accessories

I hope Clare's doesn't close. My daughter would be so disappointed. Clare's has a nice selection of jewelry and hair accessories. I've really come to depend on Clare's when I am looking for gifts for little girls. They are the first place I go to when I need a birthday gift for my daughter and my niece.

it would be a shame to lose claires yes it is great for young kids , but my friends and i who are in our fifties often shop claires for a little fun glam at great prices we love claires long may it remain!!!!!!!!!

it would be a shame to lose the claires stores. i have been to many of them in this country and even one in france! i have shopped for my kids who absolutely love the place. (claires offers birthday parties and my girls have been to many of these and totally enjoyed themselves.) my friends and i have a great time shopping for inexpensive glam trinkets there, so it's obviously a multigenerational esperience. i for one would hate to lose such an iconic and fun store.....
