It's "The Great Recession"...

...and like the Great Depression, a lot of good will come of it. There's little doubt it will get worse before it gets better, we just have to make it through. And like before, we'll end up with financially stable companies and corporations with needs to hire thousands of people.

New products, new services, new employment and new opportunities will be found everywhere. Savings by Americans will increase, both in what they put into savings and through the mid-range, savings in what they purchase. Keep an eye out for inflation--it's around the bend. Don't spend money unless you need to.

People should always strive to keep at least 3-6 months of earnings in a savings account--just a simple account that pays interest. It's for the house, home, family, and emergencies. Set up a seperate account for investments--and use ONLY THAT ACCOUNT for THAT PURPOSE.

Team up with family and/or friends to "buy bulk"--chip in to buy a side of beef, pork, 20 chickens, etc.--and split equally amongst all. Share recipes in the process!

Maybe someone in the group has a small piece of land, but doesn't have a green thumb. Next door neighbor might! See if they'll help you--maybe share the garden with them. Work with them, follow their instructions, learn in the process--both you and the neighbor come out ahead!

All kinds of things we can do. But we've got to work together to get it done. It'll take 3-5 years for this economy to get it together, so we have plenty of time. I'll plant the 'taters!

Something positive

Thanks for your article.

As a Real Estate Brocker I could see the hand writing on the wall. I would never put a client in a ARM knowing that it will adjust upward in a couple years.

We need more positive news like yours. This give us a way to think about how things will adjust.

How do we tell congress and BHO that the key to the recession is tax reduction, esp. for business and capital investors? Reduce personal taxes so that people will spend the increase in their pay check. Lower taxes create jobs. The only way we will get runaway companies to come back to the USA along with their jobs is to be competitive in the tax area like Ireland.

Positive news will allow people to spend. Gloom and doom causes people to hold on to their money. If they can't see the end of the tunnel they will save their money.

It is what it is...

Greed is not good, Darwin's theory will be tested...the strong survive and the weak shall die.

Read it again...

There are lots of reasons this "recession" is a bad thing... We can sit here and dwell on all the negative aspects but that's going to create more negativity, something I'm sure we really don't need.

However; I believe this article does show us a bit of a silver lining. If you take the time to really read the article and the message it is trying to convey there will be some positive outcomes resulting from these trials. And there are some lessons to be learned or relearned, such as getting back to the basics, which our grandfather's and father's lived by - one of which is, "don't spend more than you have."

And like Nike's slogan, "just do it." Some of our best "inventions" and most stable or trust worthy companies (big or small) have come from displaced employees who, if they'd never lost their job, might never have done the great things they accomplished. Now that is a hardworking and self-made person. It seems people tend to really find themselves when faced with adversity.

Hopefully, we as American's will come out of this wiser for it. Hopefully we will be able to pass this wisdom on to our children, most of whom believe they are entitled to anything and everything with little or no effort... easy come, easy go...

good time to travel....

Yes...its a good to save and not spend so much or change cars every year. but that doesn't mean that you have to stay home and do nothing with your life.

this would be a good time to practice the things that your parents have taught you. Save and reward yourself in the future.

Save your money.

a little money goes a long ways.

1. Find a Jar or a bottle and save all your small money and bills.

All Coins, $1, $5 bills.

after awhile that would add up.

Than...maybe after a few months you will have enough money to go on a vacation.

CA ----Disneyland, theme parks, the Beach.

Vegas---- the ultimate destination...lights, games, rides, movie theaters, shows, 24 hour fun (and in today's world...the hotels are becoming cheaper and cheaper)

New York... still cool but still expensive.

Texas..... I want to go...just so I can say....I've been there.

Good benefits -

All of these are signs of the times - now what you do with these is the key to your future endeavors. I am especially interested in the last two, as more and more people go into business for themselves, solving problems with American ingenuity that govt can't seem to put their finger on...entrepreneurs are the backbone of this economy!

We did this to our selves!

I sit here looking at what people want, what people pay for and what the government has gotten invloved in. No individual gets the kind of help these companiies are for mismanagement of funds. People today have the attitude the government should pay for everything form condoms to raising kids. The American people need to realize we were a great part in making a mess. As a people we need to revert back to an attitude of WE are responsible for ourselves. Planning our money, taking care of our families (financially and physically)Mr. Obama like all politicans have the golden tongue with all the answers. I look forward to seeing how many of our new Presdients answers will be the answer we need. An old quote I remeber so well for politics "if a politican told the truth you wouldn't vote for him" People we need to take our country back from the banks, large corporations and the government. We the people is the phrase we need to start to remeber and use.
