There's always a recession in the Ghetto,

Having been economically disadvantaged our whole lives, this recession is nothing new. My advise to all the people who've had it good is to "adapt or die". Suddenly the thought of cooking a big pot of Weeds(collard greens)and cornbread, sounds quite appetizing to many who would usually smirk and make fun of those formulas of time tested sustenance. We sell our sweet potato pies to get a few dollars more, and gain the health benefits of beta carotene at the same time.Yes we live in the projects, without air conditioners and no carpeting on the floor, but the upside is the sense of community we have,we come out and talk to one another we know who the pedophiles are,and who does what and where. There are Bar B Ques going on,and card games. There things bring us together, make us feel part of something, teach us strategy and wisdom is passed down from the elders. It's not fun being poor, and not being able to have nice things, but doing without doesn't mean you can't have fun and learn, gain knowledge and become innovative. So in conclusion, what I'm getting at,is we may be poor,we may be forgotten and laughed at but we are true warriors of survival, one day when you grow up,you can be like us.

factory jobs

until this country comes to accept the fact that every man and woman in this country can't ; won't ; doesn't want to ; or hasn't the apptitude , money, or mental capacity to go to collage - there needs to be factory jobs for those of us that can do this work and do it very well. maybe we do the same thing for 30 years or more but it's what we do and we're not ashamed when we pick up our living wage paychecks ; and who else wants to get down and dirty to do this kind of work - just us - some graduated highschool, some didn't but we all know how to work with our hands and can take instruction - and we're loyal -- but if the major companies keep sending our work out of the country and then pay themselves more for screwing the common man then i say - no bailouts - let it all go into the tank and remember the names of those responsable for the carnage to follow. Greed is taught in our places of higher education and loyalty is a thing of the past - and that includes government too. hang on folks - the cast system is about to be reintroduced

Housing

As the article stated, people were using their homes as a bank to finance their spending. The problem in the future will be that it will take many years for people to get enough equity in their homes to borrow against them. Alot of people may have learnt their lesson and not keep borrowing against there homes. After all the equity in their homes should be used for their retirement, because if you keep drawinmg money out of your home it is quite clear that they do not have enough money to buy large items without this quity.

So I think the consumer spending will be reduced for many years in the future, because if the median house price goes down 25 percent they have to go up that amount and say another 20 percent before banks will loan any money.

The problem will be that the crazy days of people borrowing large amounts of money amd their low earnings are gone. The main thing that was pushing up house prices was the large amount of money which people could borrow. My feeling is that in future house prices will not go up much above inflation, which will prevent a consumer lead recovery of our economy.

the poor

Not everybody is born to lead or perform complex jobs. So what are we going to do with them? They will be the ones doing the living and dying. The few with the cash always win. Unfair? Yes to a point. But socially responsible countries would never have allowed the ponzi schemes and wholesale abuse of the poor and uneducated....shameful...and not without repurcussions. A long hot summer awaits...you will need to watch your rich-ass backs.

Market and Economic Recovery

Events will drive Obama much more than Obama will drive events. Regardless, nobody knows when this economic crisis will end but what can be said is that many companies will rebound from today's ultra-low levels onward to new highs.

For long-term investors, this is a whale of an opportunity.
