Cars Hurt Most by $4 Gas

Back to blog

the author assumes, in my opinion inaccurately, that any sales decline is caused by high gas prices. for specific models like the hummers and titans, i can see a direct correlation. but there are other factors especially when we are talking about the entire brands.

Chevy Volt

The Chevy Volt is not all electric. It will have an all electric range of about 40 miles and a small gasoline engine to recharge its batteries if driven more than 40 miles. Battery technology needs to advance tremendously to permit a true all electric car.

Saturn sales?

Saturn's sales are down since they have no "plastic" cars left that made them famous. My wife's 1996 Saturn still looks great after 12 years. Our 1991 Saturn looks good too. NO RUST. My 2004 Vue looks fine, but in 2008 Saturn changed the VUE to all metal.

Hence all metal Saturn's are "just another small car now".

Our next car will be the Chevy VOLT all electric car. No more gas/oil! Take that OPEC.

Silliness

The Avalon's sales may be down, but MPG isn't the issue. It's MPG of 19/28 compare really well to the MPG of the 4 cylinder Camry at 21/31, and the Honda Accord at 22/31. My guess is that the price of the Avalon is more of an issue than driving economy.

A driver driving 30,000 miles a year would spend about $200 more per year; less than $4 per week. One average lunch at McDonalds.
