Windows 7 Lives Up to Hype, Spotlights Vista Neglect

Vista was a complete re-write

Vista was a complete re-write of the Windows OS and the hardware vendors took years to redo their drivers. Apple avoids this by throwing out the entire operating system every few years and making EVERYONE start over.

Microsoft supports billions of different computer configurations and tries to support as much legacy hardware and software as possible. I booted an old DOS program in Vista I last ran in 1991 (long story).

Vista is the best Win OS I’ve ever used and I can’t wait for Windows 7

Bring on 7!

Windows Vista is "awesome"? Dang, dude, what are you on? By the time Vista was released, most pcs had moved to dual-core 64-bit chips. Vista had no home 64-bit version ready. Thus, my now-2-year-old Toshiba laptop shows 3 out of 4 gigs of ram in Vista Home Premium (but all 4 gigs are there in Ubuntu 8.10--I dual-boot). If I run on battery power for an extended time, say 45 minutes or more, Windows Explorer crashes. These are system issues with Vista, not Toshiba glitches.

Vista isn't as bad as it's often made out to be; but it's not good. It's (usually) adequate. As long as I don't unplug my laptop.

Stop bitchin about Vista already!

Seriously.. .give it up. Windows Vista is a fine OS. Nothing wrong with it. It works, and it raised the bar on several fronts. I'm glad MS is not "fixing" Vista because you know what? Vista's fine the way it is. Get over it for sh!tsakes.. ;)

Vista

Vista is a great operating system! I have it on a dozen or more machines at work and home. Without Windows Vista, Windows 7 wouldn't be much since it is clear that Vista is the foundation for are largely minor improvements in Windows 7. Because Windows 7 is a little faster, I will move to it. But, don't get confused, Windows Vista did the heavy lifting in security, graphics, and driver model foundation. It is true that this caused pain in compatibility. As someone said recently in the news, Windows Vista "took one for the team". But, all in all, it's an awesome system.

win 7

Well it actually is HP's fault. If HP made the Printer, Then They also have to Write the Drivers for it, and if it is a product that is no longer supported by HP, then they will NOT write new drivers for it

MS vs HP

I'm not a MS defender by any means, but hardware drivers are the responsibility of the hardware manufacturer.

Regarding HP printers - yes, HP is the reason that the printers won't work, not MS. They are perfectly capable of easily writing new drivers, but it is in their best interest for you to buy a new printer. HP has the same philosophy regarding repair. Sure, HP will fix your scanner, but it will cost you twice the price of a new HP multi-function printer.

Will Win 7 give me the printer drivers that Vista does not have?

I have 2 HP printers that Vista won't support so I am staying with XP. However I'll bet that greedy MS will place the blame on HP.
