Palm Said to be the Next to Target iPhone

Back to blog

ME TOO ME TOO ME TOO!

Is that it from Palm? Just playing "catch up" to all the others? C'mon guys. In this biz you have to break new ground not just play me too!

FAIL.

Palm

I have owned Palm devices when they were US Robotics...to their most recent Treo Pro; but have lost faith in them ever since 3M acquired them and spun off to be their own company etc etc. This company has not come up with ANYTHING innovative since the original OS and device. Even their Treo line of phones were acquired when they bought Handspring.

Just minutes before Palm announces new products, I am predicting that it's very doubtful that the company will be able to come up with anything special that will knock off the bigger contenders in the market (Apple & RIM). Mobile OS wars have been won by iPhone and RIM. Palm is dead, Windows Mobile to die out next.

None of the companies out there are on road to make anything innovative, they all want to be iPhones.... whey not come up with something unique? .... none of the other companies could even think of putting in a real web browser in a device that has high speed internet until the iPhone came out - 'nuff said!!!!

iPhone's monthly cost is about the same as anyone else

> Not to mention the expensive service plans the

> iPhone requires (which are between 75% and 100%

> more than equivalent Sprint plans

How much is Sprint's (awful) service for:

Unlimited data.

Unlimited email.

Unlimited software.

450 minutes.

Upto 5,400 of roll-over minutes.

Unlimited nights.

Unlimited weekends.

Unlimited cell-to-cell.

Sprint is NOT 75% less expensive.

(My iPhone bill is only $10 more than Sprint.)

(And my iPhone only cost $5 more than Sprint's phone.)

Duh.

Gasp if you like, but if you want power and features get an HTC running windows mobile. Yes I said it -- windows mobile.

iPhone is a dumb blond -- arm candy that is expense to operate and doesn't do much. Palm's new OS is going to be a nice mediocre brunette who has a middle management job, good looks and can make a nice meal (multimedia oriented).

Windows Mobile on a powerful device, HTC Touch Pro, HTC HD, or one of the even better HTCs to come out this year, or, and I kid you not, even Palm's Treo Pro, takes no prisoners. I am not dependent on some extra priced service or half implemented program, I can run Garmin on my HTC Touch Pro. It serves a wifi hotspot. it plays movies perfectly and in the correct perspective, web surfing is beautiful and I have my choice of several browsers and can use youtube, jave and my slingplayer whatever.

Palm

As a Mac guy I want an iphone. Too bad they are linked with ATT a truly evil company. So I will buy the next Palm phone! I have a Treo and it is very good for what I do. Again, if iphone wasn't with ATT I would get one.

re:smartphones

Excuse your language, please what does that have to do with anything.

Im sorry for whatever race you are that you feel free to comment in that manner.

It is Unprofessional, and way off subject.

Forget the slider...go straight for the candy bar style and compete fiercely!!

Perhaps Palm is looking to sell the slider first and make some coin and then bring out something like a candy bar phone with full touch screen.

We will see tomorrow.

iPhone can not be beaten

I am a PC user and I love PC with all its faults. Just because it is more compatible with my lanauge (Farsi).

But said that, I phone is a great swtitchover for me from the treo windows based.

iPhone does have problems like no video recording, no tue-like GPS and most important, no Farsi (Persian) and Arabic support. But I still do not regret switching because it is really something different and it is really likeable. Hate it or love it, it is best Cellular ever.

Storm and the G1 can not come even close to the easse of use that iPhone has.

I just am praying for true gps, true multilingual, cut/copy and paste and that will make iPhone the best and unbeatable.

I may think of switching back to windows based Cellular if it brings iPhone like screen that has a soft-touch sensitive screen. Also multi-touch will be great. Also stable as iPhone.

Forgive my English.

Dude and J.M.

Im almost 100% with Dude.

And the arrogancy that you talk about its sometimes so high that idiot sentences comes out like: "They took touch screen, the launcher type (icons in rows and colunns) from iPhone".

Thats rubish ofc they dont know the Palm history nether the general mobility history.

I think they shamely dont even know Nokia, and iPhone seams to be the fist mobile Toy (Sorry I still can't see it as a phone) for that people.

J.M.

Again Zune its a Toy... Sorry but I think you are off topic, are we discussing smarthphones right?

Response to Dude

In all the logic that I can muster, I still dont understand the comments made here how Palm will do fine. I mean look at the other four letter wannabe follow after instead of innovator. ZUNE! Instead of being Zuned one can look forward to being Palmed
