Dell's QFlix Drive Burns Downloaded Movies

By David LaGesse

The first drive has emerged that can burn protected Internet movies to disks. The $120 drive from Dell uses technology called QFlix from Sonic Solutions. It's a limited opening, though, with the drive only able to burn a few movies offered for sale by CinemaNow. But Sonic says the burned disks should work in existing DVD players.

Qflix Technology may change the future

It's too early to see, but I think this technology will give users much more choice with content. Not just movies and tv, but sports events and special interest titles can become available. This will allow content providers the option of offering titles that probably wouldn't be profitable under the traditional store shelf model. This technology deserves more attention.
