Lost its Magic at my house, too

My Network Magic quit working, and I can't figure out how to get it working again. I, too, paid for the lifetime upgrades and am not happy with the bait and switch by Cisco. I'd love to see some recommendations for good networking software that's made by the little guy!

MY FRIEND NM JUST DIED

Thats what it feels like. 5.0 wouldnt install no matter what. Remember how easy all the other updates were. Theres no magic in ciscos version. Don't pay for it. Just let it go.

So if enough people complain to the right place

attorney generals

CNN

comsumer advocates

newsgroups

I'v never had a problem with

Cisco but this seems like a

serious large corporation rip off.

Maybe not. Don't be surprised if

NM dies. It may be in competition

with Cisco products, maybe hardware,

that cost more.

Magic is slight of hand

In truth Pure Networks whom I have been using since it had the little top hat and was called pure magic. This is total bunk moving to Cisco and then saying that Belkin routers have a different kind of firm ware that is "unsupported". It is readily apparent that if Network Magic has gone to Linksys that more than likely Network Magic is only going to work on Cisco products. Having paid for it for years, I too am moving to free version that will probably work better.

Magic is gone to the dogs

I am not going to write a long-winded complaint. Cisco support is NOT PureNetworks. I am giving up and looking for other solutions. There is FREE software that does the same thing, without the hassles. I love to support the little guy. Cisco is not a little guy and it shows. After 3 generations of LinkSys routers, NICs, wireless adapters, etc. I have switched hardware brands. Personally, I don't mind paying extra for good tech support, even tho' I rarely use it. I know that a lot of people feel the same way. When will the corporations learn? When management doesn't get rewarded for poor performance.

Well, I bought NW Magic 5 and it's not doing its magic... I was hoping it would make for seamless file-sharing between my XP and Vista machines but I just can't get that to work (and neither could Cisco Support)!

So my advice is if your your prior versions are doing the job, don't even think about the new Cisco version 5!

So much for free lifetime upgrades. With version 5.0 you now have to pay for upgrades.

Well it will be off all my computers ASAP.

Good program but now just another rip off.

Disgusted with Cisco

I too paid for life time upgrades, but not for version 5 it appears. Cisco says this is due to many enhancements...so I paid for that with life time upgrades. If this is not an upgrade, then why offer am upgrade price. I could give or take the software, don't really use it that much anyways, but the point is I paid for it and was given file time updates. It did not say it was only good for a certain version, otherwise it would not be life time updates. So what we we do as consumers...class action lawsuit? I have read some users that say 24.95 is not much, go ahead and pay for it, but that is only for one year upgrades, so version 5.1 may be another $25, then they'll say wait I paid for lifetime way back when, to late you voided your agreement when to paid for the update. The point here is that Pure Networks offered this to it's users, and Cisco bought the software and the user base, so they should honor what Pure Networks started. After all, isn't it the users that guide the direction of the software? Aren't we the ones making suggestions, or helping with testing?

I will not give them a dime, ever again as I feel cheated. They may be one of the big boys, but the consumer can make a company and break a company. I'll support the little guy, since they know what it takes to support their customers.

PS If anyone gets a new serial number for version, please let us know what you did to get it. I'm sure it will also mean that anything after version 5 will not be honored, which means their next release will be version 6.0.

Barry of CA @ Nov 25, 2008 13:57:35 PM

network magic 5.0

I too have been using network magic for years, also having the life time upgrade option.

This appears to be another rip off of the rich getting richer, maybe we need to inform the

all the computer magazines out there, which the users tend to read, this sometimes may have an

affect on how this unacceptable support and service from a large company like cisco may pan out.
