The means and the ends

It's a curious thing to an older guy that young people "know" this is all about social networking, friend making, self promotion and so forth, while the corporations running the sites "know" this is ultimately all about marketing and maybe all about eventual political maneuvering too.

The young people are "liberal" in sharing so much about themselves, and the corporations are "conservative" in gathering it up in an electronic pile. Twenty years from now, what capability will this phenomenon enable?
