Blu-ray Prices Purposely Kept High

Back to blog

The price of the discs do need to come down, but the format is here to stay. Everyone who thinks that digital downloads are going to overtake the market anytime in the next 10 years is not thinking it through. Not only is the infrastructure not there to handle it, but there are still a number of rural areas that don't have access to affordable broadband options. The industry is not going to champion digital downloads until both of these problems are solved, which they won't be anytime soon.

High end vs low end

If you want a blu ray player on the cheap, there are many options for you. If you want an expensive player, I'm sure Pioneer would satisfy. You get what you pay for...just like everything else on the market today.

Blu Ray Prices MUST Drop

Maintaining inflated disk prices will be self defeating in the long run. Can't figure out why blu ray isn't taking off ?? . . . Really ?! If they don't drop, goodbye ray !!

Misleading headline

That's Pioneer's strategy only -- they are pushing $500 plus Blu-ray players. They want to target the high-end audience.

Other Blu-ray makers are dropping prices fast.

Blu Selling well this holiday season

Please, your only fooling yourself. After previous attemp of painting Blu Rays future as dire in your blog, Blu Ray is selling well this holiday season (Black Friday sales sold better than expected) and the media is picking up on the medium too (USA today will have a large section on the format this Friday telling it's readers about the format). Say what you want but Blu Ray is here to stay.
