I hate software that just works

To me the entire point of a piece of software is the fact that you can push it to the point of breakdown, or just barely working. Any CAS that says "we have noticed your expression has alot of compositions so we've decided not to differentiate it" is not the CAS for me. Any compiler that require me to check a bunch of boxes for optimizations, click through folders for include paths and select libraries from a box, rather than -O2 -I../include -lm is not the compiler for me. Any CPU that can't be overclocked, any wireless driver that can't be bombarded with packets in monitor mode, any browser that can't be themed to the point of looking ugly, any software that can't go that extra mile just doesn't feel like what I'm paying for... err what I'm NOT paying for :D.

iPhone - "dependable hardware"... hmm!

heath's comment about the iPhone strikes me as an odd choice of phones to use as an example of dependable hardware because, well...its not! That said I can understand peoples appreciation of its aesthetic qualities, if nothing more.

I think Google are doing a fantastic and much needed job by bring an open source project to the market, and I offer them great praise for that. Apple however...dont get me started!

google software

I believe that the software will be deployed on a lot of phones and that it will improve quickly because as open source, there is sure to be an army of developers helping it.

I am sure that it is not as slick as the current generation of iphone and it does not need to be. There are already many phone manufacturer's planning to deploy this software and many more developers planning to produce solutions.

Most who have bet against Google have lost and there is no reason to believe this is going to be different.

google phone

All I need is to make calls, get email, and have a cool user friendly phone. The HTC Google phone looks like a brick. EWWWWWWW it has cool open software...big deal I would rather have dependable hardware (iphone) and if I want to play with open source software I would fire up my ubuntu laptop.
