BlackBerry Is No Bold Answer to the iPhone

Back to blog

I'm with Chris

Iphone is a piece of junk.

I don't want to own a device that forces me to send it back to the manufacturer for a battery swap.

Touch screens break quicker than good old qwerty keyboard.

The bold has a nice leather back, doesn't feel cold in your hand and is less likely to slip out of your hand.

RIM has a proven track record in the corporate world and the new BOLD is the best of both worlds. There isn't a core function that it doesn't have.

I have owned Everything

I started with a Windows mobile 6 HTC Touch, then had 2 Blackberrys and 2 Iphones. All have the ups and downs, Iphones have the nicest looking screens yes, but lack productivity and compatibility , PDA's and clunky and slow, but the 3rd party app list is Gigantic lol Blackberry is an all around solid unit , Able to take on Any task, may not have the prittyest screen, but is able to work apps the fastest and with the highest compatibility to date, Had a Curve 8330 and moved up to a Bold , and loving it. Im not one of those kids who belive my PHone is better because i own it lol, i have owned all 3 modles , and Blackberry is winnners in my mind.

not to mention im an Offical Beta Tester now ;) , i got over $500 in free accessories straight from Rims, and Free software the would generally cost 20-30 dollars each.

And a few more:

1. Video recording - BB's got it, iPhone doesn't.

2. Voice commands - Can I hit my bluetooth headset's button and call up a colleague without digging my iPhone out of my pocket (something I do several times a day)? Nope, sure can't. Hell, even my old RAZR pwns the iPhone in this department.

Oh, yeah, here's a couple more:

1. Media cards - Panasonic just announced a 32 mb SD card in January. I should stick it in my 16 gb iPho... oh, wait, I can't. Guess I'll just put it in my Bold when I've got it.

2. User-replaceable battery - I travel. So do a lot of business smartphone owners. So I carry an extra charged battery in my briefcase, and swap it out if I email myself silly on a train ride or plane. iPhone users are SOL if they run out of battery while away from their dock.

3. LED flash - Both the iPhone and BB cameras blow, but at least BB was thoughtful enough to stick in an LED flash for when my subject isn't sitting in perfect lighting. Which is never. Of course, it doesn't really matter much, as I use my cam phone to snap quick pics of important stuff and send it out on an MMS to my coworkers. Can't do that on an iPhone, because THEY STILL CAN'T MASTER MMS.

The iPhone is a lovely toy, but let's face it. If you want productivity, you're going to have to go with a Blackberry. Here's why:

1. One-handed operation - I don't always have two hands free to operate my phone. In fact, I pretty rarely do. At least with a Blackberry I can multitask.

2. Tactile keyboard - I'm sorry, but you simply can't type as fast - or as well - on an iPhone. Particularly since they seem to staunchly refuse to add landscape orientation keyboard options to anything but Safari.

3. MMS - Seriously, the iPhone can run a full-fledged Safari but can't manage MMS?

4. Copy & Paste - No copy and paste on an iPhone? Really?

5. WAP - With a BB, I have the option to have many frequently viewed pages pared down to something I can honestly read without having to reverse-pinch the screen. Or I can use Opera to load pages at full resolution if I want.

6. Battery life - Not only does battery life on the new iPhone blow, but I'm not going to feel comfortable using the video playback on it when I know I could bleed out the phone battery that way. Better to just stick a mini iPod in my pocket.

7. Dedicated GPS - BB has Maps, Google Maps, AND a full voice turn-by-turn GPS app, TeleNav. iPhone has... Google Maps.

8. Tactile keyboard - Worth mentioning twice. Or four times. Or ten.

9. Durability - That huge gorgeous screen on the iPhone everybody loves? Scratch magnet. I can put a screen protector on my BB and still operate it just fine. I've never found a screen protector for the iPhone that doesn't kinda screw up the touch functions.

There are probably other reasons, but those are only the ones I can think of off the top of my head. I'm not saying the iPhone isn't pretty great as a toy or a wonderful step up for consumer phones, but the BlackBerry currently holds its title as the most functional business productivity tool.

Blackberry Bold is #1

Cmon folks you all know the new Blackberry Bold is the coolest new phone ! The new Blackberry is the one too go with instead of the iphone.. Be real now people! The Bold what a wonderful phone too have, and classy too... and i agree it does look Fisher-Price... Blackberry Bold is for the real POWER PLAYERS out there who want the very BEST in LIFE !!!

Wolf of WI @ Jun 18, 2008 21:18:19 PM

iphone

The iphone is very Fisher-Price, it's for the same people that use aol for surfing the web. They need training wheels FOR EVERYTHING ! I don't want an employer that needs a Fisher-Price interface to use a phone.

ZO of CA @ Jun 16, 2008 02:14:14 AM

you look funny!

I sold my iphone for two reasons:

1) you know that there is always a huge price cut every yeear or so

2) people using a phone with their fingers look pretty dorky. If you like a classy business friendly phone go with the blackberry. Even after using the palm treo 750 I have decided I like using buttons over a stylus or my fingers.

Incomplete review

Why does the reviewer not mention that the i-phone cannot send text messages?
