GEOTHERMAL IS WORTH EVERY CENT !!!

We live by Orillia Ontario Canada. I was looking around to see what others thought about the worth of geothermal and found this thread.

My thoughts are now in 2009 three years after the news article your thread posted it has got much more recognized.

Here in Canada Government grants, tax rebates and NEXTENERGY the manufacturer (heres their link http://www.nextenergy.ca ) has discounts collectively are paying for 1/3 of the price of the GEOTHERMAL system.

The enviroment is at great risk using UNrenewable energy. Hydro and natural gas prices continue to increase at rocket speeds.

I know that there is absolutely no sense to stay with strickly UNrenewable energy and must go geothermal with a hybrid system. Hybrid meaning if and when there ever is a power outage in winter we can either use the fireplace or have the hard wired generator kick in. It has enough power to run our super high efficiency gas furnace which is hybridized to the GEOTHERMAL SYSTEM. With no hydro the Geo stops working but the gas furnace kicks in and heats the house till the hydro returns to normal. I want to install solar but as of yet there is not an affordable and efficient solar system with enough power to marry to the GEOTHERMAL system. I have heard however there is a very real possibility that in or around 2013 there will be a solar system to marry with the geo at an affordable price. Also GEO gives us free hot water. Using an electric tank to work with the geo your hot water bill will go down 65% . Well we are drilling four 200 foot wells in the driveway instead of the yard. The driveway is still gravel and this area won't affect the grass or lawn appearence and won't disturb the pool area. I think it's a much more practical place if possible. Most importantly though GEOTHERMAL is one way to help with saving our planet!!! Well thanks to all that install Geothermal for helping humanities future and for the future of our planet!!

Geothermal Installation Cost

Everyone including the DOE and other government agencies claim that the majority of cost of installing ground source heat pumps lie in the ground loop, but that's simply not true. If you look at the data, it is true that nearly 1/3 of the total installation cost goes to the labor and materials of the ground loop, but the technologically simple heat pump unit that sits in your home still costs significantly more that a conventional furnace and A/C unit. And if your going to have to put a significant length of heat exchange loops deep underground, that's going to cost you, and that's a component that conventional systems don't need. What really is driving cost is lack of competition, both for manufacturers and contractors. Lack of experienced contractors in many parts of the country also drive cost while increasing maintenence issues.
