More On Big Boxes Destroying the Competition

Walmart was created in the small towns

and decimated other small direct competitors there----starting 40 years ago and continuing every decade since. I have been personally familiar with Walmart stores since 1970---because I lived in the outward growth circle around their Bentonville, AR, headquarters.

Walmart offered much lower prices, saving customers substantial amounts of money on the basics. The "problem" with Walmart is that much of the money people saved on "the basics" may have also been spent (at Walmart) on things much less necesssary. A lot (LOT) of it went from middle America straight to China for things that customers might never have otherwise bought---but they did so with money they saved (at Walmart) on their core required purchases.
