Lesser evil

Honestly I think a large majority of the prohibitists would rather see teachers, policemen, firefighters laid off and parks closed than allow adults to consume marijuana legally in the privacy of their own homes. People are growing and smoking it right now probally not more than a few hundred feet from you. Only difference is they pay street value without tax.

Lets look at a regulated smoked substance like tobacco. Thru education and heavy taxes ususage has dropped a lot. Then take a look at an unregulated smoked substance like marijuana where we use propaganda and the law to stem ususage yet it continues to increase.

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this stuff out people.

If for some odd ball reason things don't work out... guess what we can always go back to prohibition.

The Last 3 Presidents smoked Pot...

This country needs to stop the hypocrisy! It is OK for future Presidents to try it because they know it is safer than alcohol and cigarettes, but we cannot allow other American Adults to use it. America has 5% of the world’s population and 25% of the world’s prisoners, and we still have just as many marijuana users than we did 30 years ago.

Alcohol and pharmaceutical lobbyist have done a good job paying off politicians to keep spreading lies about marijuana, but the truth shall set this plant free, lies only work over the short run.

The First U.S. State to legalize....

Alaska still gives checks to residents just for living there, thanks to Oil. The first state to legalize, regulate and tax marijuana will have more money and jobs then they will know what to do with. That state will become the grower for all the states that keep it illegal. At least billions of dollars monthly will not be going over the borders to Mexico and Canada. I would be one of the first to help raise that state's property values by moving in.

It would be like staking a claim to another gold rush. Don't want to be in the growing and marijuana retailing business? Fine, I bet your sales would go up from all the new money flowing into your state. You could get rich just by selling your property.

California is in debt, but poor states like Alabama could have some of the highest median incomes in America in a very short time if they just legalized it and told the DEA to stay the hell out of their state.

Nevada turn desert into some of the most valuable real estate in the world just by legalizing gambling. Once more people learned the truth about cannibals, there would not be anyone over the age of 70 that did not have a baggy in their medicine cabinet. Many people would eat it just to stave off Alzheimer’s disease, reduce arthritis pain, and help them sleep better at night.

Don't kid yourself. It is just as easy for any kid to get pot as it is to get alcohol or tobacco. It is probably easier! Why do you think this is? Probably because 99% of retailers verify age before purchase due to stiff fines imposed by LAW enforcement. Dude selling dimebags of weed on the corner gets the same penalty no matter what age his customers are, so he is not checking ID. So wouldn't you think it would be better if there were a system in place to make sure underage people can't get it? So if we legalize marijuana, it will be harder for kids to get it, and everyone in the state will benefit from the tax revenue. Will it pull us out of bankruptcy? Maybe not, but will help, and that is an undeniable fact.

Tobacco Ads - Marijuana Ads

To Samantha of CA.

"No cigarette ads--no marijuana ads

Since we have more smokers and drinkers than pot users, why would a tax on pot pull us out of a recession? This is a ploy. And kids get plenty of alcohol and cigarettes--much more than they try pot, so legalization would just promote pot to kids. It would not help education or work productivity so it would be a drain on the economy overall. We don't allow ads on TV promoting cigarettes, so we should not allow ads promoting marijuana. California just decided marijuana smoke is a carcinogen. The stations made the right decision not to air the ads."

***The AD if you watched it is clearly not marketing marijuana to individuals. No push to buy this stuff or buy that stuff. Political ads ran when state-wide smoking bans were in place and TV stations played them (here in Wisconsin). Nice try though, I know you mean well. These ads should be ran along with the ONDCP anti-drug ads they display daily. By the way Samantha, marijuana the plant itself is NOT a listed carcinogen.

How ignorant people overlook the meaning behind government ploys.

Marcus of WI @ Jul 10, 2009 19:07:21 PM

If by "promote" you mean "tells the truth about" then yes

The government (which is a short word for "old hypocrites with sticks up their you know what's") has never avoided lying about marijuana from the day they started writing the marijuana laws to the present day. In the begining they said marijuana would cause you to become a killer, and even worse, would lead to white women sleeping with the coloreds. (look it up, it's true)

Now that so many people have tried it and not become murderers they have to switch the lie. "OK, it wasn't that bad back then, BUT NOW this NEW marijuana is really, really bad, trust us", and just like William Randolf Hearst lied about marijuana in his newspaper way back then, many of todays media moguls are willing to keep the lies going for their own reasons.

Shame on you all!

Your Government acts as God.

What has God given you that Governments take away?

Marijuana.

It's wrong that the Government has taken the power of God.

After a year of study, DEA Chief Administrative Law Judge Francis L. Young in 1988 said that "Marijuana in its natural form is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man."

The judge recommended Marijuana be moved to a schedule II substance, the DEA refused and the DEA works above the law to this day!

Please watch this video of one of the few who get marijuana from the federal government today, in court explaining his story and marijuana's safety.
