Iran Nukes: Nuclear Weapons Material This Year

You can not make deals with those who want to kill you.

Iran publicly states that it wants to destroy Israel and America. Iran held our diplomats hostage for 444 days at gunpoint. They have NO honor if they would break their promises of protecting international diplomats. They lost all trust and good will if they lied about wanting nukes. We should not give them more respect just because they do get a WMD. On the contrary, we should do what a swat team would do to an escaped criminal when they endanger innocents with a weapon. Or should we try to become friends with someone who has a gun at our head??? What do you choose Obama?

misunderstanding NPT

I see from these comments that because of the misinformation by the government and media, lies continue to surround this critical issue. So here it is, Article 4 allows member nations to perform all aspects of a nuclear fuel cycle. Judging from the IAEA reports so far, Iran has not violated any NPT regulations that would have prevented it from using all aspects of a nuclear fuel cycle. Iran has been under more intrusive inspections that most EU countries. Enriching uranium is not tantamount to immediate transition to bomb making. No member country has been able to do that because of sensors and camera. If IAEA is kicked out by Iran, there will be ample time to prevent it from going all the way. it makes little sense for Iran to break out and attack a much more powerful Israel; they are suicidal as has been portrayed in the West.

Just because something does not fall inline with your perspective does not make it liberal or vice versa. Those of you who stick "liberal this" or "conservative that" into your statements will never have anything useful to add to any civilized conversation. Iran's nuclear program started under the Shah, with the full support and participation of the United States, because it makes economic sense.

And Iran's nuclear program is massively popular amongst Iranians, who are nationalists that have a long history of resenting foreign interference in their nation's affairs.

So, by pressuring the IRanian government, all you're doing is helping them burnish their nationalist credentials

"enough low enriched uranium for a nuclear weapon IF it is further enriched" --- this is really funny scaremongering based on nothing more than hypotheticals. Iran's enrichment is not only perfectly legal, it is done under IAEA safeguards and can't be "further enriched" without someone noticing. In fact the Iranians have offered to place additional restrictions on their nuclear program (beyong their existing obligations) to ensure that it can't be used to make weapons -- for example by opening the program to international participation -- and the US has ignored Iran's offers. And yet we're supposed to all be concerned about Iranian nuclear weapons?

Tell me, considering that Brazil and Argentina have recently developed the same enrichment technology as IRan (and have allowed LESS inspections by the IAEA than Iran) shouldn't we be more concerned about them? After all, the biggest investor in Brazil's nuclear program is their military, and both countries openly admit to having sought nuclear weapons in the recent past.

The developing nations see this concern about nuclear weapons proliferation as a pretext to deprive them of their right to control their own nuclear fuel cycle. This has nothing to do with nuclear weapons -- that's just a pretext.

I would also add that everything the Bush administration has done up to now to stop the Iran regime has been only a gesture ie sanctions and treats of regime change. In reality it has done nothing effective as can be seen from the outcome. I wonder WHY??? We'll have to see if Obama administration will adopt appropriate measures that yields results…

As of this date nothing has worked to either curtail or stop Iran's nuclear ambition!!! Iran is on a course to change the Middle East in such a way that Israel will not exist. Head in the sand diplomacy, sanctions and other foolhardy measures will not and have worked. Haven't we learned that appeasement(WWII) negotiations does not work. Is the world to damn afraid to do something about this??? Liberal thinking and actions IE: Jimmy Carter 444 days hostage terror has taught us nothing. Our new president has the earmarks of doing the same damn thing.
