Earthquake Swarm at Yellowstone Supervolcano: Update

Yellowstone earthquake swarms

Thanks for the information. Some other sites are talking about the evacuation of the planet. lol. As if it were even a remote possibility to do so. Anyway it is nice that someone sane has information about this topic as I have heard nothing about it via traditional news sources. I found it interesting in your interview that the last volcanic eruption coincided with the last supereruption of Toba in Indonesia, and the genetic bottleneck of humanity that is contributed to the Toba event. I also read from other sources that there were some suppositions that the activity in and around Yellowstone had contributed to earthquakes in Indonesia. Though the time and dates of correlated activity was not clearly stated in the article.

Strange animal behavior - Yellowstone area

I read a post on Above Top Secret forum, dated Jan 3,2009 ... The person states that they live 300 miles south of Yellowstone, in rockies, approx 8,000 ft elevation. The daughter saw a robin on Dec 30. The local newspaper had article about 180 robins sighted downtown. It is not normal for robins to be there this time of year. Also rocks in their yard are beginning to show, even though there is plenty of snow on the roof, and it is not warm enough for snow melt, been in bitter 20's for weeks. A black bear out and about 2 days ago. USGS is 'monitoring' the Yampa River for unknown reasons. The Elk River, which was frozen, is now not, even with temps in the 20's for weeks. That person's opinion was that robins show when the ground warms, as does snow melt, bears come out, and ice melts. The person also said snow levels in local mountains are odd, areas close to each other have different snow levels, but were hit with the same storm. It seems some parts of the Mt range is warmer than other parts, yet right next to each other. These thing are not normal for the area.

Yellowstone Swarm

There is a NEW SWARM AREA now! It has had 10 quakes so far, the largest was 3.3 magnitude, and all happening on January 9, 2009. That's right, two different swarms now to be concerned about. This new swarm, is located about 10 miles north of the Yellowstone Lake swarm. Both of the swarms are located on the rim of the caldera. Scientists are now checking for any changes in the thermal areas of the park.

Super Volcano

So most likely this "Super Volcano" will not happen, or will happen?

But good job on keeping us informed!

Best info yet on Yellowstone quakes 2009

I'm a middle school earth science teacher and we are currently studying volcanoes. My students ask daily if there are any updates. Your site's info is comprehensive and current (even more so than the YVO!) Keep up keepin' up!

End of Times

Do you suppose, or could there be any connection between

a super eruption in yellowstone, and the story going around that All Ancient Calendar's that were written back in the ancient BC's all stoped in December 2012 and

did not go any further??? It has been said that if Yellowstone had a big eruption, that all life would be

wipped out.

I would appreciate hearing your feelings on this theory.

~~~Thank You~~JoAnn~~~
Yellowstone Swarm
I thought I'd leave my take on your article. I've been interested in volcanoes ever since Mt St hellens woke up in 1980. Since then I've read anything and everything on volcanoes. This comment is for those who are worried about the recent events. The only sure way to know if there is an impending eruption is the tell tale signs of harmonic tremors. Unlike earthquakes that are formed by the fracturing of rock, a harmonic tremor is the vibration caused by magma moving up through these fractures. This is what you need to be concerned about, and you can bet our awesome USGS scientists will give us heads up if, or when these signs appear. Thanks for keeping watch on these events James!!! Look forward to more information to come.
