Is the Market Sensing a McCain Win?

By James Pethokoukis

An Obama presidency is supposed to be bad news for drug stocks. Then why are Merck and Pfizer outperforming the S&P 500 for the past two weeks? And UnitedHealth Group, supposedly an "Obama stock," has been getting battered. Both stocks, by the way, would be considered defensive stocks, so there must be more to it than that. Maybe Mr. Market knows something the pollsters don't.

Re: D's comments

Ditto on above comment! I remember the Carter years!!!! It was NOT pretty.

no recovery with Obama

I expect a stock market crash on November 5 if Obama wins, because his and the congressional Democrats' policies of high taxes, high capital gains taxes, restricting trade, gutting and demoralizing the military, and massive new government programs will kill any chances of a quick economic recovery. Jimmy Carter tried those policies, and they failed.
