Amity Shlaes: Not a MellonHead

By James Pethokoukis

My good friend Amity Shlaes E-mails me that I erroneously tagged her as a MellonHead, a description I have given to those pundits who think, as did Hoover Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon, that what this country needs is a good economic purging and that we should do nothing about the financial crisis. She informs me, rather, that there are bailout packages she would be in favor of, just not the Paulson plan. Duly noted!

amity who?

Amity who? Amity Shlaes was the youngest editor of the Wall Street Journal's editorial page and has been writing about taxes for a long time. She's smart too.

Amity who?

Hoover is still president?

Listening to John McCain, I would have thought that Bill Clinton is still president because John blames him for the financial institution's (whoops, our) problems.

Wow! One of us has got to get a life.
