democracy

The Athenian democracy lasted app. 200 years. It's downfall: government intervention, the voracious appetite of the masses for more government services, anarchy, and finally dictatorship. Well, USA is app. 200 years old as a democracy. Are we headed down the same path? Maybe democracy is not a good model? Your Thoughts

I am sorry to say that it appears you all are missing the point here. Yes, under an Obama presidency taxes will go up, and money will move from those that provide the grease to our economy to those that take from the economy. Money will move from those who put capital to good use, to those that do not. Like the Clinton, Frank, Schumer, houses for everyone plan, money and capital will move from where it creates jobs to more socialist causes. That, it seems, everyone gets.

However, what I don't think people here get is the damage that an Obama presidency is going to effect on our democracy. No longer will we be able to speak freely; obama has shown that if you disagree with him, you will be punished. He is from Chicago politics, notorious for retribution and revenge. Moreover, he believes in socialism---with the help of Pelosi and Reid, our country is going to go far left.

At the end of the day, there really is only one solution. Smart capital should retreat from the markets and under the mattress. Businesses should layoff workers in protest of government mandated rules. This country was not founded on big government, and regardless of the rhetorical argument that the bush government was big government (I don't like Bush either), you guys have not seen anything yet.

Our nation is going to go down the toilet very quick under an Obama presidency, and true patriots who want to get this country back would be wise to let the the inevitable happen by taking all your money out of the system, firing workers, and give the left-wing freaks what they think they want.

As an aside, military members who have fought so hard for this country for decades, only to be spit on by academia and the other freaks, should leave the military in mass. By staying in the military, you are saying that you believe marxisim and racism (afterall, 99% of certain demographics are voting for Obama strictly because of his race).

We are facing tough times that require tough action. True patriots will retreat and just wait it out. The media controls our country now and until there is chaos, the media will continue to control. The only way to survive is to just wait it out and let our system work itself out. With time, our left-wing media will realize that they have gone way too far left; in most countries they would have been eliminated, but that is what makes our country both great and sad. We can only hope that America will get educated and realize that they are being brainwashed by a left-wing media bent on controlling our collective conscious. the only way they will wake up is through their wallet. Regardless of what they say, greed drives our media as it drives everyone, yet, their greed is not tempered by the reality that throughout history, those that seek to control others thoughts are doomed to fail.

obama taxes

Well you guys that obama man has lowered down to those making 200,000 not the 250,000 or 300,000 when he first started out saying. Just like Joe the plumber guy said how low will he go. It's looking like to people that make more than 40,000 a year that he will rob their hard earn money and give it to us poor. Well I make lees than 12,000 a year and I will not take any money that that obama guy will send out. In fact I will mail it right back to him personally and let him spend the hard earn working class money that he will steal from them. Watch the market will get even worst once he take office. And another great depression will begin. But only worst.

This is for Joel You must have forgotten that the Republicans had control of Congress for the most part under Clinton. What happened under Carter? Yuk!!! There was out of control inflation and interest rates. Bush inherited a Clinton recession and we were attacked 7 months later on 9/11. We were lucky that we didn't go into a deep depression with Bush's handling of the economy.

fluff

This article doesn't really say much at all. It sounds like the continuance of a conversation the author has been having with someone for over an hour, and I'm supposed to infer meanings from his loose references. So what do I make of this? A hat, a broach, or even a pterodactyl!

All I know is what my clients tell me

Many are absolutely terrified of an Obama presidency and are either going to cash or going offshore. His talk of redistributing wealth during this severe downturn is resonating with them more than the recession, housing, etc. I try to reason with them that the Constitution is bigger than Obama or even Congress, and that even the most liberal of administrations has had no real effect on the markets over time...but I am having very little luck. These are small business folks or professionals who have worked up from nothing to be successful...and don't scare easily. They aren't the overly rich, but they do fall in the upper middle class. I have never seen anything like it.

Obama Plays To His Base

Obama has been playing to his base - stupid people.

None of them will admit that the current market and financial mess originated with Bill Clinton for cutting regulations and advanced by Rangel (D - NY) who insisted that peole who could not afford a mortgage be given one anyway.

The Obama (Stock Market) Discount May Be Real

It would be wise on those who are concerned about this economy, with the fall rooted in the housing market, to take a closer look at where and when the root of the falling housing market began. Yes, the fall is occuring during the Bush administration, but the error began during the Clinton administration with Democratic policies. It is during the Clinton administration that the housing market began it's climb into this great fall by impossible loans and over-priced housing. It has taken a near ten years to view this fall of the economy through this housing market, but many of us knew this was coming in 1998, during the Clinton adminstration. Now we are going to let the Democrats take control of the money to fix the problem that they started, just because their error fell on the Bush administration. If Obama wins the election, get your seat belts on and be prepared for more of the same, adding to an even greater fall of this economy. Yes, we will get change for sure.

Obamanomics already tried by Jimmy Carter

Jimmy Carter promised to slash defense spending, cut taxes for the middle class, soak the rich, and restrict trade, and put a windfall profits tax on the oil companies. Congress never got around to the tax cuts, and the other policies brought on high unemployment, high inflation, high interest rates, and economic and foreign policy disaster. Obama is promising all of the same things. Clinton adopted essentially Republican economics, and he especially championed free trade, and we prospered.

We already did Obamanomics under Jimmy Carter, and it failed miserably.
