David Frum's Weird Attack on Larry Kudlow

Myth of Middle Class Income Stagnation

At his blog, Steve Conover does a convincing job of dispelling the myth that Frum perpetuates.

The myth conflates growth in household income with individual wage growth.

To me, the basic point is that a Double Income No Kids household is different from a One Income Two Kids household. This distinction is lost in the popular household income analysis that the myth perpetuators tend to look at.

The important comparison is among actual income earners and shows all wage categories rising at similar rates, i.e. the rising tide is actually raising all the boats!

Truly, the greatest story never told (or at least not nearly enough).

Anway, Steve's blog is worth the read: http://boomerang.blogs.com/optimist/2008/10/the-rumor-about.html

wage disparity

You know what is keeping wage-earners' wages down more than anything else? Illegal immigrants. Nothing can drive up wages like a tight job market. I honestly don't see the logic of the DNC with respect to the immigration issue. If they are truly for "main street" America they would kick out those who are essentially depressing the wages of American workers. Might this lead to a rise in core inflation? Probably, but I would be willing to bet that real wages would increase without the millions of "undocumented" workers undercutting American laborers.

Productivity vs. income

For American workers to receive a fair share of the American pie, their wage increases should keep up with their productivity increases. You produce more, you get paid more. It's that simple.

But under the Bush Administration, productivity has risen faster than real income for the majority of American workers. That means they're producing more, but not getting rewarded for it.

It's that simple.

And it's why the Republicans are perceived as out of touch.

Cheaper goods make up for inequality?

You seem to be saying that income inequality somehow does not exist because lower-income people have access to cheaper goods. Am I interpreting this correctly? It's a myth?

Let them Eat Kudlow Kake!

Kudlow is a pundit - he will support a position without a shred of real evidence as long as it can be used to support an agenda he supports. Truth is a stranger to Kudlow, and I'm certain he wouldn't recognize it if it walked up to him and asked him for a dime for a cup of coffee.

What Kudlow engages in cannot be called journalism or economics, but does fit the classic definition of corporate propaganda.Beware numbers expressed as percentages, it is usually an attempt to amplify or exagerate a point. A percentage without all the underlying numbers it is composed of is useless.

Kudlow is for free markets except when he is not, he will say whatever is needed to keep his job and maintain his contacts. He is a superb example of an elite hypocrite whose intellect is far exceeded by his ego.

REAL wages

The author discusses the increase in average REAL pretax earned income per worker. That means the income has been adjusted for inflation. Otherwise, his point that incorrect measurements of the inflation rate skew the real income estimate wouldn't make sense.

Kudlow is the man

Mr. Kudlow knows what is talking about. This market isn't easy to predict. Look when the markets changes so does your position changes and if doesn't then that is just stupid. Drill drill drill will work and bring prices down. If when supply inventories are short the price of oil raise 3 to 5 dollars on average so how wouldn't drill drill drill bring down the price of oil with more oil supplies? I don't understand where people get this thinking from. The credit crunch brought down the whole market. Mr. Kudlow doesn't want no government involved but other people believe if nothing happen then the country be a depression. If he agreed we be in depression than people would be really up in arms. Kudlow has been dead right all year. Job recession, Drill drill drill, low taxes promote economic growth. I almost agree Mr. Kudlow on everything so far he is pretty successful so..

Irrational Actors Part II

As if part of an animal herd, mass man breeds, and lives a certain lifestyle. He raises his mass manlets a certain way, drives them to school via SUV, grabs the Starbucks Grande, takes the flying vacation (or family holiday to see the grand mass men on the other coast). He lives in a big, big newer home with the granite counter tops and open ceilings. Then he complains about his wages, blames it on "Bush's war ruining the economy" and votes for Obama.
