How McCain Can Mount a Comeback

McCain Must Hammer the Truth Now !!!

The truth about America's financial crisis is that the Democrat's failed practices are absolutely to blame. The Democrats are the party of the House - as they have controlled the legislative branch 43 of the the last 54 years - including the last 2 years. They are the party that created the perfect system to spend money without accountability. They are the party that wrestled the line item veto (the most effective tool to control spending ever invented) from the Presidential toolkit and they are the party of today's "Wall Street". Let's face it Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae are the rotten, spoiled children of the Democrat family brain trust, whom they've pampered and protected with a vengeance. And now that their bloated offspring have puked all over Wall Street and completed infected Main Street, the Democrats want to pretend the problem was caused by someone else while they presume to rush in and play "savior" to the disease they created. This is basic. The truth is clear. Those who control the House make the laws that govern and control. It's time to stop their lies and place the blame where it belongs! Only then can real change happen. Tell the country McCain! Tell the people!! Let them know who is really responsible!!! Do it Now!! Do not fail us!!

Have faith in McCain

Not only is this a scenario just itching for a maverick reformer like McCain, but let's keep in mind that McCain is at his best when the chips are down. Being counted for dead (in Viet Nam, literally) is when McCain is at his best. For us normal folks, having him bypass opportunity after opportunity drives us nuts! He needs to disregard all of his handlers and Be McCain and allow Palin to Be Palin. They also need to totally disregard the media which lately seems to be driven by leftist liberal (and sometimes anonymous) blogs. The future of the Republican Party is John McCain and the McCain Republicans. Like we saw with Reagan, many of the future McCain Democrats will be switching parties before long.

Catherine of IL @ Sep 30, 2008 22:42:10 PM

Mcain are you serious?

Why doesn't anyone here use common sense? This passing of the blame isn't going to solve anything. Its a fact that Republicans control the house and our president is also a republican. Wheather or not we were headed for this when Clinton was in office or not we still got here and we got here fast. McCain's inability to see what would help him potentially win an election should show you at least one flaw in character. The banks are bleeding, and it serves them right for giving out loans based on equity and not on income. Who cares how much money you have in your house if you make 7 dollars an hour? The average american will never be able to assume that debt. I make $150,000 a year and this used to be good money, now with the fallen value of the dollar its not worth much. When gas is $4.00 a gallon, and when my fathers meds are $800 a week a seems even worse. See it looks to me as if the Republicans and Democrats are quite similar, and honestly an independant should be in office. However since this isn't possible it boils down to the fact that we have to pick from the worse of two evils. Doesn't it bother you as a republican no wait an American that we have a president (World Speaker) that doesn't know how to speak? A President that couldn't out debate John Kerry? I don't have a calendar in my room for any president other than Geroge Bush that has a blooper for every day of the year. Oh George Bush isn't a good speaker no big deal. Are you serious? He is the supposid leader of the free world and speaker for our entire country. Isn't being a good speaker kid of a job requirement? Don't loose lips sink ships? Well I guess so because we are sinking and we are sinking fast. I would personally rather have a baboon sitting as the speaker for the free world than have Bush be it. I mean seriously what have we come too? Do you know how sad a day it is for Republicans that a Black Man has the possibility to beat a White man for president? Do you know the amount of hate we have for Bush to have that even be a possibility. We can't even get a catholic in the white house never less a minority. And really McCain just doesn't have what it take to be our president. Let do something differen't this time!

McCain Should Oppose the Bailout NOW!

The bailout bill is everything I thought John McCain opposes. He needs to vote against it tomorrow and put forward an alternative plan that makes sense to the American people. He needs to lead on this issue, not follow. He could win the election by doing this. Other commentors here are right: Palin needs to spearhead articulating the new position in the debate on Thursday. Her problem in the interviews has been that she hasn't taken charge of the conversation, instead letting her "inquisitors" do it and just answering instead of controlling the discussion. The economic spearheading role could help her take control as well as getting the reforming message of the ticket out to the American people. People just won't believe McCain is a reformer if he lets this one go by.

McCain

I hope someone gets this article and comments to McCain. Someone has to get through to him. It is looking and sounding older and older and weaker and weaker as the campaign goes on.

He needs to develop some forceful step by step plans on how to fix the housing problem which will fix the rest of the problems and sound like he knows what he is talking about.

I agree about the debate. He missed an opportunity, that is for sure. He needs to get on top of the game instead of playing defensive.

McCain also needs to get some TV ads out there that are specific about the various problems and his step by step method to solve them.

In Wisconsin, he needs to hammer on the fact that he will not take away the guns.

If Obama is elected I fear it will be the end of our democracy and we will be socialized. I do not think we will be safe.

McCain's Erratic Behavior

A tactical turn towards economic issues is unlikely to benefit McCain. First, nearly every statement McCain makes just serves to show his profound ignorance of economics. Second, his reckless politicization of bailout negotiations demonstrates his lack of good sense. Most independent voters like me know that McCain was irresponsible in mixing presidential politics into this process.

Third, his constant zigzags in tactics and policy has made even conservatives like Rich Lowery and George Will raise the possibility that McCain is ill-suited for the presidency. They understand that McCain looks to be an even bigger disaster-in-the-making than George W. Bush. They understand that if McCain wins, this may be the last Republican president for a generation or two. More and more Republicans may realize this by election day. If this happnes, be prepared for an Obama electoral blowout.

Deregulation caused this

Democrats may not have helped the cause but make no mistake about it McCain/Gramm style deregulation caused this. CRA only account for 20% of all sub prime loans. Non CRA institutions make up the rest. Non CRA institutions were twice as likely to give sub prime loans. CRA subprime loans were 66% less likely to foreclose then Non CRA sub prime loans. So what happen?

Two bills happened Gramm-Leahy-Bliely act of 1999 and the Futures Modernization act of 2000 both Phil Gramm sponsored bills.

These two bills knocked down walls between commercial banks and investment banks, encouraged banks to make bad loans by removing oversight in the form of swap loans, opened energy speculation loopholes, deregulated asset back securities, and created financial tools to easily enter mortgage and asset backed positions. As the economy slowed in the earlier 2000s money rushed into one of the few areas still making money which was real estate. All of these deregulations created tons of wealth making opportunities but encouraged a gross amount of risk with very little oversight. Warren buffet called these Gramm tools the Weapons of Mass Destruction of the financial industry.

Gramm is now a senior financial advisor in the McCain camp. They can spin this all they want and as I said the Democrats did not overly extend to help but it was a problem created by these republican policies.

FM & FM & JM

Here is the latest on McCain and his connection to the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac failures. You can try to pin this on BHO but that dog won't hunt.

Hammer on Obama's Fanny and Freddie

I agree with all the previous comments relating to Democrats' and Obama's hypocrisy regarding the home and financial crises. Camp McCain should hammer on these, most especially on the DNC leaders and Obama being the biggest beneficiaries of Fanny and Freddie- now til Nov.4. Communicate these and his proposed economic solutions in clear terms. Unleash Palin and let her do the continued pouncing, as only she could with credibility, as she did in the convention, on Obama's zero executive and leadership experience. McCain is up against the psychology of an economic crisis that unfairly favors the Democrats and the American media's unabashed selling of Obama to the voters. Finally, Obama can debate; well, he has been on training for years, by hundreds of highly-paid advisers and consultants. But for the next debate, to be effective and for the people to understand him, all that McCain has to do is be himself and be true to his convictions, and communicate these in simple terms, as he did in the Saddleback Forum, where he spoke with sincerity and people not just understood but felt as well his message. People still see McCain as the leader who will help them overcome present economic adversities.

McCain/Palin '08 for family values, honor and valor!

Hillary 2012!

You people are delusional

So many are grasping at straws in these posts. Especially Michele from VA. Have you failed to notice that McCain's campaign advisor has been cashing checks from Fannie Mae up until about an hour ago?? And you grasp at these random straws about Obama's connection to those failed enterprises. It's frightening. I'm sure you all think McCain actually accomplished something by pretending to suspend his campaign, and that Sarah Palin is a magnificent, highly qualified choice of a VP too. The GOP has f#cked the country's financial system because unbridled capitalism is king. If McCain would have remained the fairly decent human being he used to be ten years ago, before he sold his soul, he probably would be ahead now. Instead he is a liar and a hypocrite of the first order. That's sad. That's what will cost him the election.
