GOP Source: Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska, Madam Vice President

Sarah PAlin's experience

Sarah Palin has run two government organizations as chief executive: as mayor of Wasilla and as governor of Alaska. How many government organizations have either Obama or Biden run?

When he was picked as Roosevelt's VP in 1944, Harry Truman was a failed haberdashery merchant and a minion of the local Democrat Party machine. He had been an officer in the Army in World War I, and was later a county judge and a US Senator. He became President after less than two months as VP, and proved to be one of the best of the 20th Century. He was honest, straightforward and tough, qualities that help him succeed in the nation's highest office. He also had great skill in picking people and in working with them.

From what little most of us know, Sarah Palin is a very different kind of politician, one who has gone against the easy way, stood by her principles, and accomplished a good deal during her relatively short public career. But she has demonstrated courage in taking on the political establishment of her state, in carrying and birthing a baby she knew to be afflicted, and in doing things right, even though she may not have agreed with them, for example, approving giving gay state workers' partner's benefits on the advise of the State's Attorney General.

I thought her speech today in Dayton was very good. I like what I read about her environmental, fiscal and ethics positions, although I can't agree with her on the abortion issue. I do however respect her for taking her position and sticking with it in a very tough personal situation, so much so that I cannot hold that factor against her at all. Not at all!She looks good, she sounds good, and I believe she will make a fine VP. I just wish McCain would not sound so much like Bush in so many things.

I'm not sure this was a good choice,Obama even has more experience than she does. The governor has been in office for less than two years and before that a mayor from a small town.this would be pretty dangerous to have her one heart attack of a 72 year old away from the presidency.

Republican VP

If using MCain's best judgment was picking the Alaska Govenor for VP, God help us if Mc Cain wins.

Terrible choice for the planet

Shocking Choice by John McCain

WASHINGTON-- Senator John McCain just announced his choice for running mate: Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska. To follow is a statement by Rodger Schlickeisen, president of Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund.

“Senator McCain’s choice for a running mate is beyond belief. By choosing Sarah Palin, McCain has clearly made a decision to continue the Bush legacy of destructive environmental policies.

“Sarah Palin, whose husband works for BP (formerly British Petroleum), has repeatedly put special interests first when it comes to the environment. In her scant two years as governor, she has lobbied aggressively to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling, pushed for more drilling off of Alaska’s coasts, and put special interests above science. Ms. Palin has made it clear through her actions that she is unwilling to do even as much as the Bush administration to address the impacts of global warming. Her most recent effort has been to sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to remove the polar bear from the endangered species list, putting Big Oil before sound science. As unbelievable as this may sound, this actually puts her to the right of the Bush administration.

“This is Senator McCain’s first significant choice in building his executive team and it’s a bad one. It has to raise serious doubts in the minds of voters about John McCain’s commitment to conservation, to addressing the impacts of global warming and to ensuring our country ends its dependency on oil.”

The Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund (www.defendersactionfund.org) provides a powerful voice in Washington to Americans who value our conservation heritage. Through grassroots lobbying, issue advocacy and political campaigns, the Action Fund champions those laws and lawmakers that protect wildlife and wild places while working against those that do them harm.

I Said It Before and I Will Say It Again

This proves what I have believed all along.

Good old fashion common sense is missing from POLITICS.

"What in the world could a governor from a state with a budget that literally runs on oil revenue possibly understand about running a federal government that actually has to tax people?"

The answer is, a lot more than a Senator who has no executive experience and has rarely voted for anything for the people. Oh, that's right, his supporters don't care about energy plans or reducing government spending. Time will tell but I'm pretty sure his undeliverable promises will be the Obama/Biden's biggest problem.

I am so proud

It was so thrilling to vote for a woman for president in the primaries. Now I will be proud to vote for a woman vice president.

Perfect choice

She's right on energy, right on tax and economic policy, right on the need to balance environmental and land-use issues. I don't vote pro-life/pro-choice but I appreciate that she's lived by the position she advocates. She's an executive - where Obama's spent his political career dodging votes and trying to avoid leaving a record, she's rolled up her sleeves and forged ahead.
