Talk Down The Economy So You Can Turn It Around

That is the model Bill Clinton used. The economy was in recovery before the election was even over, but Clinton rode the economic tidal wave as his own accomplishment.

Obama is just taking a page out of the book.

Wha????

I thought this was going to be about Obama's "Temple" he has erected at Invesco Field. Gee...how could I be so wrong?

Or was I?

Alinsky's Rules For Radicals

Alinsky's Rules for Radicals, Rule #10: : “If you push a negative hard enough, it will push through and become a positive.” If the Dems pretend-to-fret enough, the media/propaganda-organ will harp mightily & some of the muddlers-in-the-middle will be influenced. `Oh-h-h!, times are worse than we think -- better vote for the .. **people's party**!'

Temple of Gloom

I have found this kind of talk idiotic and irresponsible as well. Attacking the "Bush/Cheney Economy" is abysmally ignorant, but a surprisingly large number of Americans go along with this crap.

Obama's frequant references to "putting Americans to work" is also astounding nonsense that implies we have major unemployment issues as if it were the great Depression.

What is worrisome about this demagogue's language is that he wants to mobilize us as if we were facing a Nation-threatening crisis, like an all-out war, or an economic collapse, or an asteroid strike. He is the actual threat to the Nation and its social and economic fabric.

Go figure

No surprise. If Democrats understood any of the basic fundamentals of economies, then they'd be Republicans.

Diggs of CO @ Aug 27, 2008 17:25:18 PM

I've Wondered About That

I've wondered how the Dems can be complaining about the economy, saying how incredibly lousy it is. It seemed to me that after the recession in the first year of Bush's term, made worse by the hit the economy took on 9/11, there has been rather robust growth. Of course, the Dems were decrying the economy even when a lot of jobs were being created and the rate of growth was impressive. Jobs weren't good enough jobs, growth was not large enough (despite their celebration of similar numbers posted during Clinton's term).

Now, the economy is taking a huge hit because of energy prices, and they're blaming the Republicans? Um... the no-drill Dems have been the no-drill Dems for a LONG long time. They've controlled the purse strings now for two years. They don't want to do what it will take to improve the situation, both near and long term (drill now, develop alternatives--DEVELOP, not mandate from Washington DC like they did with corn-based ethanol).

I can't listen to their complaints or their economic prescriptions without shuddering a little, and grabbing my wallet.

Endless Recession

If you listen to Democrats, we're in our 8th straight year of recession (and hopefully, heading into at least 4 more).

History Repeast Itself

Why do politicians feel the need to exaggerate to make a point when facts would work so much better.

I am thinking of 2004 when Kerry kept insisting that the War had cost $225 Billion when it had only cost $125 Billion... was $125 Billion not enough?

Today we have to talk about 47 million Americans without healthcare, but ignore the fact that 10 to 15 million are illegal aliens and wouldn't qualify (and it is arguable whether we should call the "Americans" in the citizenship sense of the word) or the millions of people who have access to health care but choose not to purchase it (I believe that number is around 5 million, but I am not positive)... again, so 30 million people without healthcare isn't enough?

And the fact that the economy hasn't been this slow in 28 years isn't enough? They need to make a BS claims about the Great Depression?

It is almost like they don't realize that once an argument is perceived to be false... it is ignored in its entirety.

BTW, I think I know the answer to this... they repeat these lies because they aren't trying to convince anyone... they are just talking to their own true believers.

One quarter?

Are you sure we had one quarter of economic growth? I thought the GDP was revised upward to +0.9%.
