Two Cheers for Russia's Invasion of Georgia

Liberals solution to all International Crisis

Want to know the Liberal solution to every International Crisis? Simple... Talk. Talk, that is right, just talk. Remember "Peace in our Time" Chamberlain? I do. If you don't then it doesn't surprise me. Liberals never know their History because they keep trying to re-write it. We can talk Russia out of Georgia right? Didn't the Sarkozy talk them into withdrawing yesterday? Right? Oh wait... Russia is now on its' way to the Georgian Capital. But we Talked to Putin. He agreed. Remember? Maybe Obama should give a really stirring speech. Yeah that is the solution!! A speech. We can fly him to Paris first. Then to Germany. Then to Israel. Then to Iraq. Then to Afghanistan. Then to Georgia. Then to Moscow. He will give speech after speech that will hypnotize the Russians into obeying his will.

This will work. It has worked on the Media. Why else would they act as his Quasi-PR Firm?

Send in Obama. Let him Talk. Russia will certainly fall under his spell.

We have two choices... We can ask "What would Carter Do? WWCD" or we can ask... "What would Reagan do?" WWRD?

Wait.. we know what Carter/Obama would do. Talk.

Where is Reagan when we need him?

"It's weakling, republicanazi. The point you make is equally off kilter. 4,000 killed in Iraq is your idea of "peace through strength?" Where is either?"

Yep, because we all know that peace can only be attained by talking off your enemy's ear. Putin is proud of you, MB of PA, who by the way, has already violated the cease fire. You leftist Luddites are truly idiots.

Misspelled Words Equal Stupidity

This

this was my first thought after initial horror over the invasion- it was 'now we know, hopefully before it is too late for us and others'. Wisdom never comes free, and sometimes not even cheap. I'd call this relatively cheap. Not as in painless or cost-free, obviously.

It's a hard, tough world we coexist in

Hammered that nail right on the head, James.

We DO indeed need to pull out all the stops on the drilling issue, along with encouraging new technologies ASAP.

Putin is no doubt reading about Peak Oil.

If Libertarians believe in liberty, then they of all people should see the Russian attack on Georgia on a reduction of their liberty and should condemn. However, the more I hear the views of Libertarians as it relates to foreign policy is that in the grand scheme of things, if it doesn't involve the US directly then it is not "our problem". Of course, the reward for having this view was a World War I, World War II, and a Cold War that lasted 50 years. However, I am not surprised by these contortions. After all, these same people do the exact same thing as liberals and "blame America first" in getting involved in international affairs. Far be it that Russia seemed to have planned this so that Georgia appears to be the aggressor and to incur the sympathy of the so-called intelligentsia (or lack thereof), no it was the evil United States' fault for "egging" on Georgia to seek independence after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and seek to work with the country that helped bring that dissolution. Pathetic.

And if the Libertarian wants to take a harder line than most Libertarians, then that is fine. This is America. You can have any damned view you wish here and proclaim your party affiliation with anyone.

Chris of AZ @ Aug 13, 2008 00:36:12 AM

Hm...

Fazha,

It appears you have learnt nothing from last 8 years if you support Republicans for any of the issues. You are no libertarian. Word you are looking for is: Nationalist.

I bet you also think you are a patriot. A proud one as well, I am sure. IOW, you havent evolved enough to think.

Two Cheers for the Invasion

I agree with James P. completely. Putin has shown his true colors; no more denial is allowed. Europeans better get another petroleum supply.

There is one aspect of buying international crude oil that still needs to be exposed. That is, sending a dollar to Saudi or Russia for oil is NOT the same as sending a dollar to Iowa for ethanol or to California for solar panels. Obviously giving a dollar to an American in Iowa is better for the USA than giving it to a Russian oil company. But there are balance of payments aspects, etc. which I am not qualified to comment on. We need some academic economists to do a comparison of the financial impacts.
