Why Romney Would Be an Important Veep Pick

Good Ticket

That would be a decent ticket. With Romney's ability to think outside of Washington and McCain's maverick inside Washington contacts, the two of them could get a lot done with congress. And that's the issue with our government right now- they can't get anything done. There's so much partisanship and division that even an obviously good idea is shot down depending on what party presented it.

And the first comment up there is ridiculous. I think people are hurting enough economically that they don't give a crap what religion their governing officials are a part of.... as long as they get the job done! Obama on the other hand seems to have no religious convictions, shady characters backing him up, and no judgement/experience to be a president (let alone a senator). As Thomas Sowell put it:

"The media have been crucial to Barack Obama's whole candidacy. His only achievements of national significance in his entire career have been media achievements and rhetorical achievements.

Perhaps his greatest achievement has been running as a candidate with an image wholly incompatible with what he has actually been doing for decades. This man who is now supposedly going to "unite" us has for years worked hand in glove, and contributed both his own money and the taxpayers' money, to people who have sought to divide us in the most crude demagogic ways."

Bad idea

Romney is so smart it's frightening. He has successfully run large businesses and knows how the real world works. He has conservative instincts mellowed by just enough pragmatism to make him potentially highly effective in Washington. He'd make a great vice president.

All of this is irrelevant. As Daniel David has just illustrated, the religious bigotry and know-nothing populism Romney would draw out from under the rocks is just too big a liability in a close election. Shouldn't be that way, but our voters are only human.

oops

you're*

I don't see how you can be worried about Romney's religious associations when you've got Obama's to mull over.

Good idea! I like it!

Romney is a GREAT choice for McCain's vice president because he would help Obama (and whoever) win. Romney would be good at reminding average folks why they don't like corporate gazillionaire types who are at the root of Americans' problems---not their solutions. Even better, Romney's Mormonism cult beliefs could help Christians firmly reject the two of them----since, so far, some church people are "struggling" with the idea of just rejecting the McCains outright on their ungodly beer profiteering by itself. Add in Romney, and the decision for church folks to vote Democratic (or stay home) just gets so much easier.
