Why Romney Would Be an Important Veep Pick

Actually, Huckabee was invited

To Stephen Monteith:

Actually Governor Huckabee WAS invited to the Memorial Day get-together with McCain. But because it was Huckabee's wedding anniversary, he declined.

I still think he's is the most logical choice for Senator McCain’s Vice President. Survey USA polls show that between Huckabee, Pawlenty, Romney, and Lieberman, Governor Huckabee is the best man for McCain in terms of winning votes this November.

Besides his immediate pull, the former Arkansas Governor would garner huge grassroots support that, over time, could make all the difference in this election.

Mike Huckabee also has Reagan-like speaking abilities. Should he be given enough publicity, or participate in any debates, he could counteract Obama's speechmaking skills and give McCain a sharper edge.

I don't want Romney

Mitt Romney is perhaps the worst man Senator McCain could pick for his VP. Because he did not using his full gubernatorial power, Massachusetts became the first state in the history of this country to allow homosexual marriage. I know he says he had no choice, but others say differently (see http://www.wyll.com/blogs/srios/11561276/).

I will have trouble voting for McCain if Romney is on the ticket with him.

VP for McCain

It has been mention that Palin can bring in lots of Woman votes and she is also conservative but he can't go wrong with Mitt Romney and get Michigan, and Maybe a Maybe MA he was the Governor there. Another is Mike Huckabee he is from tye south. Another one is Pawlenty from MN but can he deliver MN to McCain that will be a little difficut. He will get alot of Hispanic votes in this election that I can assure you all. He will get the Cuban Votes in FL and he will win FLA, and he will get Tons of Hispanic votes in OH, PA, NJ, CT, NY, NJ, TX, NM, NV. He will win MI, OH, PA, that is the Big Ten States and that my friend he will win the election. Remember what I said PA, MI, and OH. Maybe WI, and MN.

To all my Latinos Friend across this great nation of ours vote for McCain and make sure this OBAMA does not get the Hispanic vote!!!! NO OBAMA

Mitt is not it

In order for the Republicans to win the White House this year they need to do three things and Mitt can not help with any of them. There are so many things that Mitt is excellent at, but none of them indicate that he is the right man for the VP job. He is a tremendous family man. He loves his faith and like other politicians has served as a church leader (even priest/minister) of his local church. Is extremely smart about the way of the business world. However all of this will not help the Republicans win.

1. Need to win the South. - Right or wrong some of the Christians are worried of voting for McCain and by adding Romney to the ticket, some of them will not show up to the polls because of his religion. Unfortunately our country has some people like this and that is the fact of politics. With the increase number of minority voters that will come to the election because of Obama, the south is in play and McCain needs someone that will excite the same people that helped Rove and Bush win in 2000 and 2004.

2. Need to win the Regan Democrats - These are the conservative social people who are more liberal on the fiscal policies. Typical Blue Collar workers that some are represented by unions who are already fed up with the current President's image of just looking out of the Rich. Again right or wrong this is the image the press has used for the last couple of years and Romney will just aid to that image, especially just purchasing a huge home in California, compared to the majority of the US struggling to make their house payments.

3. Finally, McCain's biggest weakness is his speaking ablility in debates as well as speaches to the public. Although Romney is decent at speaking he has a history of flip flopping on a number of issues. Considering the number of times that Obama has done this over the past month, this is something that will be hard to exploit when your VP is just as bad. Just look at his record when he was running for Senator and Governor. And if you look at his record in governing the state of MA then it is hard to show how the state improved under his watch (State Health plan that is similar to what Obama wants and the fact the were near the bottom of job growth during his term)

Again I think Romney is perfect in turning around a business by fixing the structure and balance sheet, but a government can not be broken up in parts and sold off like he was famous for doing at companies like Staples.

I believe McCain has three questions to answer before we find out the VP Can I trust Romney?, Can I live with the fact that Huckabee might out shine me at times? Do Jindal, Pawltrey, and Palin have enough experience to continue use that argument against Obama? Hopefully we will find out soon.

To Harry the Hammer, I disagree with you about Mike Huckabee being ugly. I and every other woman I know agree that Huckabee is very good looking. His personality makes him attractive, more so than any of the candidates!!! You are entitled to your opinion, just know the ladies don't agree!!!

Now for his qualifications! Don't know why people don't want to give Huckabee credit for doing the same job as Bill Clinton, only Huckabee was voted one of the 5 best governors in the US, was elected as Chairman of the Natn'l Govs. Assoc. by his peers, was re-elected TWICE in a democratic state, had an approval rating in Ark while gov. as high as 77%, when elected drove the biggest turnout to vote the state had ever seen, got 48% of the black vote (almost unheard of for a Republican). He must have been doing something right!!! Why do people refuse to give the man credit where credit is due. He has run a postive campaign not talking negatively of any of the other candidates. Why can't you give him the same courtesy?

J Poyfair of Tx. Mike Huckabee was in the race to become president. You see, he did not start out with the money that Romney had nor the backers. He was relatively unknown and most candidates with so little never make it out of third tier. But Huckabee has what it takes and what the people want in a president and the surge from the people began! He accomplished more with less than ANY candidate. Hucksarmy was the people in the field so excited about a candidate that we started it from the ground up and built it to be called the best netroot this election! That army was inspired by one man--Mike Huckabee! Take another look at Huckabee and you will see he has the answers for the country. Fair Tax, less government, every single life has the same intrinsic value (that VERY core belief is the foundation of what makes Huckabee a great leader), great ideas on health care, working for Main St., as well as Wall st (precisely why Washington does not care for Huck and why we DO)! I don't know where you got the idea Huckabee did not want to win. He campaigned harder than ANY candidate, even McCain! He never gave up until McCain secured the 1191 delegates. His supporters have never put down our pom poms, nor will we!!!

Romney not suited for vp

If Romney is so good with the economy the best place for him is secretary of commerce. The vp has nothing to do with the economy. VP breaks the ties in the senate and we need a consistent conservative, not someone whose opinion changes with the wind! VP also attends funerals, makes speeches and checks on the health of the president. (McCAin would certainly have to watch his back with Romney as his vp! ). McCain built his career and reputation on doing what is right and standing on principle. His very nature would not allow him to add Romney to his ticket when these two men couldn't be more different in their ideology! If McCain does add Romney the dems. will surely win, and that would finish off Romney's "political career". With his disastrous primary run, then a second loss, it would be near impossible to recover! Maybe, he SHOULD be the vp....

To Joel of WA

It may not still be the case, but I know that the LDS church has had a policy to not accept tithing from members who work in the gaming part of the hotels. Members who worked in the other portions- such as on the monorails or movie theatres or retail shops were allowed to pay their tithes.

Whether or not a member pays tithes ties in directly to whether or not he or she is permitted into the temple. Again, I do not know what the church's current stance is, if it has changed.

To those who think Huckabee is viable

I would personally love to see Huckabee on the McCain ticket. You see I have predicted that in that event, Utah, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, Idaho and Wyoming will go blue. Huckabee offended a lot of Mormons during the campaign and I don't know of any that would vote for a ticket with him on it (especially with McCain being as old as he is and the V.P. likely becoming Pres). You see there is some validitiy to the argument about Mormon Casino workers and how Mormons were willing to work in such an environment. To clarify: Mormons are not prohibited (by the church) from working in gaming itself, but there are a whole lot of other employees at a casino and they do work there. The policy is largely considered one of tolerance. Mormons believe that others have the freedom to chose to live their lives how they wish. So even though Mormons find Abortion and the many liberal social agenda abhorrant, they do believe folks should have the freedom to sin. So which would they vote for, if it was Obama against Huckabee (V.P.) I think it would be Obama.

reply to obnoxious

Okay, I just can't let this sit where it is. The charge above is basically an attack on 'Helicopter Ben" Bernanke, the incumbent Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve. Democrats have their panties in knots because he purposely directed the nation toward inflation by reducing interest rates nationwide. He gets the nickname for having said something to the effect that we ought to just make a helicopter drop of cash over urban areas. The purpose behind this, of course, was to maintain a demand in order to avoid a recession.

This is in juxtaposition to Alan Greenspan, the former laissez-faire Chairman who had served since Reagan. Daniel, if you are a Democrat, and I take it by your rhetoric that you are, how is it that you oppose the reduction of interest rates. If you truly favor a laissez-faire attitude, as you suggest, how can you believe in anything but a flat-tax as being fair? The Bush Tax-cuts were never taking from the poor but taxing proportionately based on your fiscal value to the country. Removing the Bush Tax-Cuts will punish those with aspirations of earning more money by taxing the snot out of them. Where is the incentive to be more industrious for an educated mind or capable hands?

The bottom line is that you are right that we should have a laissez-faire economy. You are right that the Bush Administration has not handled our money in so savvy a manner since Greenspan's passing. These are Fiscally conservative views, however. You cannot be a proponent of entitlement programs (and I'm guessing that you are since in your first blog you blame world starvation and hemroids on the evil rich "gazillionaires" like Mitt romney)- you cannot be a hack for entitlement programs and still foster a hatred of gov't control of funds. It makes you a walking self-contradiction, as I appraised earlier.

By the way, my supposition of your having been dumped by someone is not a political lie as you have addressed it in your previous entry - I said, "I was inclined to wonder." By-the-by, I am now wondering if it was in college, now, as opposed to high school, as it seems your wounds are still fresh and deep.

Finally, I do not mean to call the Democratic Party fiscally unaccountable, even though it is - just look at the barriors they erected on drilling for oil- I mean to indicate all those many abusers of entitlement programs. Those who do not use the programs as a springboard to get back up on their feet but are content to drift aimlessly as driftwood from welfare check to welfare check.

If Romney were in charge, he would probably put welfare recipients to work on the road systems and get the nation something back for all of the money it is losing. He would also be training people to do something for a living.
