Weren't we here before?

Maybe if you closed the 70 military occupations that make this great nation an empire, or maybe if you tapped into the oil reserves in Alaska or the natural gas in the dakotas and bought back our t-bills from china while decreasing our deficit... there are options. I'm surprised we've become our greatest enemy, a tyrannical overlord on the world, just like the Brits were to us.

Its Socialism on the way to Nationalism

Unless you know history you will repeat it...depression in 1920...did you hear about it? No because the government did not get involved and in less than 2 years the economy healed itself...capitalism. Depression of 1930's...government got involved tried to fix it before it happened and we all know about 1933. (Sound familiar?) Fast forward. Germany pre WWII; bad economy - high unemployment, no credit. Young man with new ideas, Adolf Hitler... government to spend $$ to build infrastructure, created government low paying jobs, built Autobahn, and Volkswagons and other good things. Still wasn't doing all he promised for the economy, so Nationalism started, "it is the Jewish population that is destroying our econonmy" they cried. (sound like the illegal alien argument?) Buy the way how was the depression averted in 1920's and later...by decreasing taxes...which increased funds available to government...(go figure)

Socialist economy, and medicine? I know of people in Germany who have been out of work for 10 years, incentive to get job...why, government pays rent, medical and pays for food...the rest.."I get by with a little help from my friends" So the tax base is 50%...and a few work so the rest can ride...

Oh...you are no longer working? Well in that case the socialistic medical insurance plan will not pay for you to have open heart surgery...we will manage you with medication. Sound like the plan to reduce cost in senior health care? Who decides? What about chronic illnesses, children born with defects? (As Nancy Pelosi said...wouldn't birth control be cheaper? Maybe the government could have all pregnancies screened and terminate the "less desireable" pregnancies. Not in a free country like ours you say, ask the older Germans who thought no such thing could happen in their country before Adolf...infantcide was quite common for children born premature or with defects...I know because my grandparents and mother lived through it.

Washington - Economic Plan

It's painfully obvious that Washington (Politicians) hasn't got a clue. The average Joe on the street can do their job as well or better than they can. They blame the business world for our economic problems, greed and corruption. Well, from what I see their no better. I for one will take part of the blame - I voted for them.

Why don't socialists/liberals understand that there is no such thing as a "free lunch"?

Who gets to pay for this bloated "stimulus" plan? The taxpayer pays! Not just "the rich", but average, MIDDLE CLASS workers like you and me. It is NOT the governments job to manage private citizens money.

Reality check: everyone needs to be responsible for themselves and quit expecting to be "bailed out" when they have saved too little and spent too much.

Why Work?

With the way things are going Obama will succeed in creating his goverment. It may become more profitable to not work and collect welfare than it is to work and pay huge taxes to support those that refuse to work. Really, who are the smart ones?

Socialist state? Come on... I don't think anyone is asking for redistribution of wealth. There must be some cooperation and input from all if you want a healthy society and an educated one...and don't think this doesn't effect you, it needs to matter to everyone.

Who says the whole plan will be payed for by ending the war and removing tax cuts? I'm tired of all the whining too. The government is the "biggest waster of money"? No kidding...look at where we are. All that money wasted saving greedy corporations that we are forced to bail out. Not one of those CEO's is leaving behind a luxurious lifestyle and the middle class is paying for it already. It's great if they earned the money for this, but these greedy fools have a safety net under them that no one else is given....why? I wonder where all the complaining about socialist states was when we where bailing out these guys? And the WAR??? Where is your "financial" sense when it comes to this huge drain? Not to mention an unfair war waged under false pretenses. Where the lives lost on both sides worth it...can you explain that to their families?

Is it not clear that we are in a dangerous situation...mostly caused by arrogance and greed. Who SHOULD be responsible for cleaning up our waste...for taking care of those in our society that can't take care of themselves, for transportation systems that work so that maybe we can be a little less wasteful with natural resources.

In any case, things need to change. I don't think it will be easy for anyone. Perhaps if you had started complaining when we entered an unjustified war and began to use fear as a way to keep society complacent.....maybe we could have saved some of that money then???
