Should Seniors Receive $250 Checks?

these are hard times, no doubt, when was it no hard times??? We are out of the era of any diseases practically, we've overcome all flues, and smallpox, mumps, rhubella, measles, typhoid fever, and the ones found left alive are those we create ourselves. It's not a shame to be getting a mere 250.00 2 times per yr.

When it gets to be where all this is adding more than subtracting from the children we bear, than we are left with another area of decision.

Now it's at the point where the next time we aren't ready for a war or a chaos, we are simply doling out the entitlements to suffering and dying. It's ok to do that. God watches all actions of authorities and they have to account for their duties, so if they are only forwarding a bit of money to ease some poorness, I see no harm in merely helping out.

What is wrong is people that are working are free to speak, and it hurts them to see someone else get a bit of help. They are entitled to raises too. They should be rewarded for their efforts. But I think to speak out "FOR" your cause requires more than looking down others' throats. Sometimes if you need, want or require something you need to work hard, be quiet at the right times, and talk to the right people that can do something about it for YOU, not complaining to the effect of a small 250.00 check that well, "they can't help how they are", no but on the other hand some of us should get new furniture and not have 6 televisions,....... right????

seniors 250.00 check

I WORKED my ENTIRE life..became disabled...My Husband WORKED his entire life...WE SAVED for the FUTURE...we SAVED for retirement and it ALL went to MEDICAL bills. The cost of living INCREASES for us...we DON'T get BONUSES on Holidays...we PAY for our Insurance coverages...and people actually THINK we don't NEED help???? What is wrong with some Americans...We DID I stress DID support our country and STILL do through TAXES like you in the working class yet, we are NOT rewarded and there are of those of you who would begrudge us a mere $250.00???? I DID not make a decision to become disabled... Perhaps those who oppose should take a look into the lives of us who need..THINK what YOUR LIFE can become in an INSTANT and THEN begrudge YOURSELF a mere $250. How MUCH has the Government indirectly or directly spent to save YOUR HOME???? THINK before you actually speak for it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!!!

Can't have it both ways.

I feel if inflation is non existant that there should be no payment. Many seniors fell that it is there right to recieve these increases,on the other hand they complain about excess spending well you can't have it both ways.

I would like for poorer seniors to get more than $250. I am currently disabled but I I have other other sources of income. I don't think singles like me that have enough money to live should get checks from the government. So far I have gotten a $600 check and a $250 and now they want to give me another $250 dollar check. Please give this money to elderly who are in need of it and not elderly who are well off. I was in business for myself for many years and I know that many of the women that came into my office were only getting $300 a month and they were having to work at age 85 was a very sad thing to watch. On the other thing there were elderly retired that were getting as much as $2500 dollars per month. There are couples getting as much as $5,000 per month. This is wrong when there are people suffering in this country. Everyone should get $1,000 per month. And that is the way it should be. Listen to me everyone in this country get medicare when they turn 65. No matter how rich they are the government pays 100% of the cost of part A for every senior (including me) since I am disabled. If I were a millionaire they would provide me FREE part A medicare. I am not suggesting that seniors should all get medicare, but I don't believe that wealthy american's aren't capable of paying a premium for their part A premium. Folks things have to change in this country or we will go bankrupt. I am willing to pay more if we can fix more in this country.

MONEY JUST FOR LIVING?

Why do seniors deserve anything? What is this BS about seniors building this country, or any country for that matter? These seniors worked to support themselves and their families, like everyone else. They gave no thought to building this country or to sacrificing. This is socialist union pablum to justify giving people something they don't deserve. Where is all the money these seniors spent on themselves while they were working and didn't save for their future? We, the people, as the government, don't "owe" them anything more than we "owe" any other citizen.

Right now, while I am working, I am sacrificing my lifestyle so I will have money for my old age. My medical costs are going up, too. Who is going to pay for me? It's remarkable to see all the complaints about "donuthole" in the Medicare drug program. Before Part D, seniors paid for all their medicine. Give us all a break.

US Census says that seniors are the wealthiest segment of our population

I have two problems with this proposal.

1) The U.S. Census Bureau's latest report states that the poverty rate for U.S. residents 65 and older is below the rates for other age groups and has been for much of the past two decades. In 2008, the rate for seniors was 9.7 percent. That same year it was 11.7 percent for 18- to 64-year-olds and 19 percent for minors.

According to the Census Bureau, the wealthiest age bracket today is over 65. Why are we taking money from the poorest segment (our kids) to give to the wealthiest?

2) Where are we going to get the funds? If we are going to borrow as Congress has suggested, what will the REAL cost be after interest is factored in? The cost of this outweighs the small benefit that $250 will bring.

Ultimately, I believe we should help those who are seriously struggling, but I don't think it should automatically be just those who are able to vote en masse.

social security and cola

I love the license plate that says " I am spending my children's inheritance." Perhaps this is truer in more ways than one.

I am getting Social Security and can do without another $250.

I have found that seniors are the greediest of all people.

They only think of their "ENTITLEMENTS."
