I think this statement relates to the earlier article on lofty expectations of 20-somethings:
People are saying, 'Maybe I don't need a Pottery Barn nursery, maybe my kid can go to public school, maybe I won't take vacations. It's not what I'd choose, but it's what we'll do,'"
I'm not even going to comment on the concept of a Pottery Barn nursery.
Kids have been going to public school since the dawn of time or since public school was invented and turning out fine...the only reason I would send my theoretical kids to private school would be if I lived in a subpar community with a less than stellar educational system or one with gang problems.
As for vacations...maybe I'm in the minority but our family vacations were never extravagant. We'd rent a house in the mountains for a few days or a week, go fishing, sit on the lake, etc.
