Vote: How Is the Economy Affecting You?

The verdict is in: Americans are worried about the economy. The latest evidence comes from an AARP nationwide survey that asked respondents ages 45 and over about how they have responded to the slowdown. Most participants said that the economy is in bad shape and that they have changed their own behavior to adapt. Among the findings:

Freaking out. I'm subsisting entirely on peanut butter and adrenaline, and I've hidden all of my money under my mattress.

This economy is brutal. I am a stay-at-home mom. A month after we found out baby no. 2 is on the way (YEAH!), my husband got down-sized when his company had to cut costs. It's been a few months and he's had multiple interviews, but the job search is going at a snail's pace. It's a little unnerving. Part of me is glad I'm still in school for this economic correction. My friends who are working have gone in to work one day only to find out there would be massive layoffs, luckily they survived the first round. I just hope the situation improves by the time I graduate next year....

That sounds like a smart decision to me, if you can manage it -- I've actually been hearing from quite a few people recently who have said they save half or close to have of their after-tax income.
