So, one of my buddies had maybe thirty Lego sets from when he was a kid.
I arranged for him to lend me about ten of them.
I set them up on a table in the basement.
On date night, I brought Gloria to the basement and told her sincerely that I had been challenged to make the Eiffel Tower out of Lego (I had seen that in a sketch somewhere).
I told Gloria that I didn't have a clue how to do it (and I didn't)
Well, you should have seen the light in Gloria's eyes. I only wish she looked at me that way.
She went to my computer. Got the Lego specs for the Tower, and FOUR dates later (after I borrowed some more lego sets) we had a six foot tall Eiffel Tower in the basement.
This creation brought Gloria and me together in a productive way.....I was even able to help....
And, I saved maybe a hundred dollars on movies and such.

Here's an idea. Go to an arts supplies store and buy the following:
$10.00 on A2 sketching paper.
$2.50 on a professional graphite pencil
$0.99 on an eraser
Spend the night sketching portraits of each other. No need to be amazing artists, just have fun.

Usually I'll pick a cafe that has live shows playing occasionally, and look around for small bands with a sound I like (even the tiny ones have samples on MySpace). You spend about $4 on a latte and enjoy a free show, while not seeming like a total cheapass. If you go in the afternoon, there's no need to buy food, since you won't be hungry until later in the evening.

Budget under the Stars
My husband and I just this week took a walk at the Coney Island boardwalk (Free).
Had Dinner at Nathan's (Hot Dog Stand $2.97 a hot dog & Soda $ 2.00) . We had 2 hotdogs each.
Then went to a 7pm Brooklyn Cyclones Game ($8.Bleacher seats).
Then we stayed for the Fireworks show after the game (Free)

Go To Lounges That Offer Free Dance Lessons
Well for frugal types, there are plenty of night club type lounges that offer free dance lessons periodically. In my neck of the woods (Washington D.C. and Baltimore), there are a few Cuban type cigar/bars/clubs (not sure what to call them) that offer free ballroom/salsa dancing lessons. The lounges have comfortable seats everywhere where most people can talk and drink if they wish. But they also have a small dance floor where free dance lessons are offered once a month or so.
I am terrible at dancing but there are plenty of great Salsa/ballroom dancers who are willing to lead a bumbling guy like me. It's great for not only couples, but for singles as well. They play great music and it even brings out shy dancers like myself.
As a side tip: It's a great place for single guys to be as it's one of the very few places where women massively outnumber guys 5 to 1. As dancing is a pretty feminine activity by nature, it's a lot harder for single women to find dance partners at these free dance lessons than free single guys.

Our cheapest dates are weddings (that we're invited to of course!) For about $100, we get all the wine we can drink, a decent meal, dancing, conversation with adults. Plus, we can almost always score free babysitting from our parents, because it's more of an obligation than a date!

Date Night
I live on the Jersey shore, and they do Sunday night movies on the beach for free! My fiance and I just grab snacks from home and our camping chairs- no money spent, and we have a great time!
