Locking in Lower Gas Prices

Back to blog

This could be a scam

After reading Patty, I honestly say that I agree with her, they are not forthcoming with everything. Has anyone thought that this maybe a pyramid scheme to drive the prices up even more? I live in a small community our grocery store in our small city closed. We either travel to the nearest city, which is five miles away, which only has one high priced grocery store that gives points towards gas. Alternatively, travel fourteen miles that has a plethora grocery stores to choose from so you get the lower prices on food, which in our area have gone up and only cost more in gas to get there to shop. Of OH. made a valid point too, the problem that I see with this theory, is you prepay for gas and the prices that you pay today so in our area it is up to $3.99 a gallon. What happens if there is a drop in prices then you are throwing money right out of the window. Has anyone else looked at this website? Not all the information is there they give a couple names of gas stations, however, when you click on the locater button there is not one single gas station listed they tell you that it will be coming out soon? I think they jumped the gun on this and did not think it all the way through investigate before making your mind up whether this is a good idea or not and even Sam’s and Costco prices have gone up to. You also have to pay a membership fee of $29.95 when enrolling in the auto-refill program. Cost of annual membership is $39.95 for the manual refill program. Yes, you do get a membership card in the mail once you have completed the application it takes a while to get your card in the mail, they also tell you if you do not save money on at least one transaction, you may cancel and get a full refund of your membership within one year. They also state that if a gas station will take a credit card they will take the mygallons card. Take the time think about it how many of us middle and low class can really afford to throw more money out of the window? With the other rising costs in everything else examples daycare, groceries, trash pickup, water and sewer, electric, gas, propane, everything is going up and news flash the typical job wage raise two percent and the cost of living is up to three or more percent. My boyfriend works with a father that by the time, he and his wife receive their paychecks it barely covers the daycare and the basic needs food, shelter, clothing, electricity, gas to go back and forth to work. The average wage increase is less than a cup of a regular cup of coffee for the average middle class person for most average people is anywhere from a twenty-five to fifty cents an hour.

Gallonage Conversion

The dilemma is to see how this concept will accurately determine the amount of actual gallonage purchased, since gas companies depend on dollar amounts processed through credit card clearinghouses, but do not process per gallon cost at that time. If the filling station processes their sales at the current pricing structure, which changes almost daily at most stations, how will mygallons be able to track each purchase price at the particular filling station in each and every state, and convert this to gallons to determine the consumer's usage? They will more than likely have to depend on current average pricing in the area or state, which will not be a fair and legal assessment.

Too many fees.....

* $15 overdraft if you go over your balance (even if you go a penny over!?!)

* $1.95 for reloading your card (that can add up if you're not buying many gallons at at a time)

* Cost of annual membership is $29.95 if you enroll in the auto-refill program.

* Cost of annual membership is $39.95 if you enroll in the manual refill program.

Ok, it's just a couple fees...LOL Oh well, I don't have extra money to pre-pay anyways.

You are not really saving any money on gas

My gallons says you lock in the price of gas at it's current price, and that you pay a membership fee, but if you use all the money on the card then you have purchase gas at the rate it is right then. So you haven't really locked in a price for yourself that you can depend on. Every time you have to put money on this card you will be buying gas at it's current price. I think that you should be able to lock in the price of gas at the time of membership then I could see this being beneficial to average family or individual in the long run. The only person this could beneficial is to someone witha alot of money that can put a $1000.00 dollars this at one time then you at least secure that price for a substantial amount of time.

how do you get the gas?

Once you buy the gas, how would you get it? Is there a prepaid credit card that you use at the gas station? None of the articles about mygallons.com elaborate on that.

Not that I have the money to prepay gas, but I'm glad Patty made me feel better about it!

Smart concept

In the same way we're locking in natural gas an electricity for our homes through our utility companies and their pre-purchases of huge blocks of energy, so are these folks doing for me in this market of record increasing gasoline costs. This is brilliant!!

mygallons telling lies

Does anyone do homework anymore before writing or publishing a story? Looks like the answer is NO.

Here are the problems I see with mygallons.com site.

They state:

2000 members

Soft Launch in January

Problems:

Registered Domain in March

Registered company in April

Got SSL Certificate 2 weeks ago (Not possible to run credit cards without it)

Have testimonials on their site (Not possible since no site, no members and it takes 1-6 weeks to get card)

Site went live last week

Conclusion:

Not too good. They are not being honest and truthful. Make your own conclusion. Do I feel safe sending them my hard earned dollars, absolutely NOT

Gasoline

Sounds like it could be O.K. But also may be something else to drive prices up faster than it is already rising.
