I agree, don't shun the brother

My elderly grandfather is in need of financial assistance, which two of his children offer, but not the third. My grandfather has been an absolutely selfish, philandering cad all his life, and is lucky he has anyone who cares a whit about him. That only one of his kids chooses not to help support him is a blessing he has not earned.

brother who won't help

I like your 'lend them the money then recoup from their estate' comment, but SHUN their brother when they have NO idea of the truth of his finances....that's just cold. He's family, and we all know (or should know) that families can't be replaced, even if we don't agree with what they do/don't do.....sorry but ousting him from the family is 'way too drastic...
