"Stop Shopping" means just that, and "massive disruption", while painful, may nevertheless be necessary.

Don't worry. The church of "stop shopping" is really just code for shopping with a conscience, and consuming more sustainably, which even the most conservative economist would hopefully be able to admit is healthier than pure un-checked consumer capitalism.

Of course, shopping should not be done in excess to one's income and other worthwhile and important activities.

But stop shopping and be prepared for massive disruption to the economy and unemployment as workers are laid off in droves.
