Geography
Auburn is in southwest Maine, across the Androscoggin River from its twin city, Lewiston. The two cities are so closely tied that the metropolitan area is often called L-A, for Lewiston-Auburn.

Auburn is noted for its active arts community. The award-winning Public Theatre presents Broadway and regional productions, and the organization L/A Arts puts on concerts and displays the work of local artists
Recreation
Boating and canoeing are attractions in this riverfront community. Hikers and skiers also enjoy the trails at Mount Apatite, a former quarry.
