Cultural Attractions
The Lafayette Miners Museum is housed in the structure where miners used to hold meetings during strikes.
Recreation
Lafayette is home to the Lafayette Oatmeal Festival, a celebration created by downtown vendors to bring new business into the town. It's the only festival of its kind.
Historical
Mary Miller, who founded the town and named it after her late husband, also founded the Lafayette Bank in 1900. After being elected president of the bank, she became the only female bank president in the world at the time.
Economy
Coal was a large part of Lafayette's economy, though the Black Diamond Mine, the last in the city, closed in 1956. Growth in nearby Boulder and Denver has brought a shift to commercial enterprises within the town.
