Geography
Located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Golden is just west of Denver, at the opening of Clear Creek Canyon.
Cultural Attractions
Golden is filled with museums, notably Buffalo Bill's Gravesite & Museum, as well as the Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum, which displays minerals from all over the world and features a reconstructed gold mine.
Recreation
Before exploring Golden's Lookout Mountain, visitors can do research at the American Mountaineering Center, which contains the largest collection of mountaineering resources in the western hemisphere, with 17,000 volumes.
Historical
From 1862 to 1867, Golden served as the territorial capital of Colorado, but it lost the distinction when Colorado became a state.
