Recreation
The waterfront has impressive Bocce ball courts, which are also host to the nation's largest Bocce federation.
Historical
In the 1840s, Martinez served as a ferryboat transit point across the Carquinez Straits for those en route to the gold fields.
Economy
The city is currently in the process of improving its marina with restaurants and shopping, adding new business buildings downtown, and constructing a new festival center in honor of John Muir.
Fun Fact
In 1874, the famous martini cocktail was invented here and first served to a thirsty gold miner.
