How to Earn Money from Blogging

I have been following John Chow for a year and have watched his reported income rises hand over fist. I am impressed with his success and only wish I could make a tenth of that with my Debo Hobo dot com blog.

One must realized that there are a bevy of sources through which to make money online and as your article states one should definitely not rely solely on Google for any type of substantial revenue.

CafePress is a great way to get your logo into the hand of your readers via t-shirts and ball caps etc, and the blogger earns revenue through each sell.

Blogging in the travel niche myself has been a growing experience and I have seen some really great blogs from which I have learned a lot. Although I can only report revenue less than 2K a month, I refuse to give up because I truly do enjoy blogging.

Thanks and happy travels

Money from Blogging

To further your Olympic analogy, it's important for new bloggers to understand it's a marathon, not a 100 meter dash. Bloggers need to enjoy blogging for blogging's sake, not as a get rich quick scheme. Know you niche well and be willing to share & learn through the proces. Marketing is key to obtain a steady readership, along with your good blog content.

I've learned a lot in a short span of time and enjoy sharing my experiences on my blog !

The non-blogging alternative

Good article, but you're missing a key concept -- earning money by writing *without* blogging. There are many sites where users can contribute content, and share in the advertising revenue. I've been doing this at eHow.com for four months, and I'm already pulling in $300 a month (and my income is still growing at a pretty fast clip).

eHow is a site for "how to" articles, but there are other places like xomba.com or associatedcontent.com where you can post pretty much whatever you want, and collect a share of the ad revenue.

The "cost" of having to share ad revenue is more than cancelled out by the fact that a site like eHow is a well-recognized site that generates a large volume of traffic. Instead of a tiny trickle of visitors at a new blog site, your posts at eHow start out with a steady stream of traffic.

When US News is ready to do an article on these types of sites, give me a call, and I'll be happy to fill you in with more detail.
