10 Not So 'Recession-Proof' Industries
The media's free fall is taking with it even the age-old adage "sex sells"—at least when it comes to selling to advertisers. While a spokesperson for Playboy says that the magazine's circulation of 2.6 million remains the same as last year, the magazine's year-on-year revenues fell 11 percent in the fourth quarter. That's expected to plummet to 27 percent in the first quarter of 2009. Playboy's peers are troubled, too. Circulation has fallen at men's glossies like FHM and Loaded, and the British print version of Maxim is shuttering this year.
