10 Not So 'Recession-Proof' Industries

What does the adult entertainment industry have in common with banks and automakers? It wants a bailout. In petitioning Congress for $5 billion in January, Hustler magazine publisher Larry Flynt and Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis argued that they don't just need the money—America does. "With all this economic misery and people losing all that money, sex is the farthest thing from their mind," Flynt said in a news release. "It's time for Congress to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America." Adult entertainment DVD sales and rentals, hurt both by the recession and competition from free websites and pirated videos, have dropped 22 percent over the past year.
