Albany claims to be the “Rare Metal Capital of the World,” thanks to the number of companies located there that produce zirconium, titanium, and hafnium.

The weather is mild in all seasons.
Cultural Attractions
Albany is known to have one of the best collections of historic buildings in the state, several of which are located downtown. It is also host to the River Rhythms music festival and several theaters.
Fun Fact
Albany hosts an annual world championship timber carnival.
Geography
The town is located in the Willamette River Valley, on the banks of the Willamette River and its tributary, the Calapooia River.
Historical
In 1853, residents of the town persuaded the legislature to change the name of Albany to “Takenah,” a Kalapuyan word describing the pool where the Willamette and Calapooia rivers meet.  Some thought the word translated as “hole in the ground,” and the city subsequently went back to calling itself Albany in 1855.
