A suburb of Peoria, Pekin is a very traditional small town.

Climate
Pekin enjoys a four-season climate, with temperate summers and snowy winters.
Cultural Attractions
The late Sen. Everett Dirksen came from Pekin, and the city continues to honor him.  The Dirksen Congressional Center serves as the official archive for his papers, and works to promote public awareness of Congress.  Pekin's annual Marigold Festival was started in 1972 to support the senator's (unsuccessful) attempt to have the marigold named the national flower.
