Historical
Arizona State University was founded in 1885 as a site for the Territorial Normal School, which trained teachers for Arizona's schools; it was not until 1958 that it became a university.
Recreation
Tempe is home to Sun Devil Stadium, home field for the Arizona State University football team, and the annual Tostitos Fiesta Bowl Classic.
