Taipei, Taiwan (large map)
Wan Fang is a regional teaching hospital with 750 beds, employing 66 physicians and 215 surgeons. (Note: Fewer than 20 percent speak English.) Doctors in training at Taipei Medical University do their internships at Wan-Fang. Located on a 22-acre campus near a major freeway in Taipei, Wan-Fang has been operating since 1997 as Taiwan's first publicly owned but privately operated hospital. Wan-Fang received JCI accreditation in 2006. Wan-Fang is best known for neurosurgery, cardiology, orthopedics, infertility treatments, and laser cosmetic surgery (nearly 5,000 annually). Wan-Fang's Laser Cosmetic Center offers a wide range of dermatological treatments ranging from Botox injections to microinvasive surgery for osmidrosis (secretion of foul-smelling sweat). Wan-Fang's most frequent cardiovascular surgeries include cardiac catheterization and stenting (about 800 cases per year) and open reduction and fixation of fractures of the extremities (more than 700 cases annually). Some 8,000 international patients seek treatment at Wan-Fang each year, most of them from nearby Asian countries, including Japan, China, Korea, and Myanmar.
