Profile
Bombay, India (large map)
Established in 1990 in Bangalore and headquartered in Bombay, Wockhardt has hospitals in those cities and Calcutta. The Bombay facility was the first hospital in southern India to receive JCI accreditation. Wockhardt emphasizes its specialty centers and is particularly well-known in heart disease and orthopedic surgery. It is creating superspecialty clusters in each city. The four superspecialties in Bombay include the Heart Institute, where dozens of advanced operations have been performed, among them conscious surgery during which a patient undergoing an open-heart operation receives minimal anesthesia. This avoids postoperative complications sometimes caused by deep anesthesia.
