Many in U.S. Prisons Lack Good Health Care

ohio prison health care

There is no health care in prison I almost died only because I was told I was lying. Can I do anything? of course not because they lost my records and my OSU records are so secure I will never get them. I was abused in prison and then tortured when I complained wish I could afford to sue but I would not know where to start. I would be just as happy to know that the doctor and the nurse that tortured me was sent to prison

PRISON CONDITIONS

I THINK IT IS ABSOLUTLEY DISCRACEFUL HOW PEOPLE ARE TREATED IN PRISION. THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS, IF SOMEONE DOES A CRIME, IT IS UNDERSTANDABLE THAT THEY SHOULD BE PUNISHED ACCORDINGLY, BUT SOME OF THE LAW MAKERS,PRISON OFFICALS,AS WELL AS THE PUBLIC HAVE FORGOTTEN THE TRUE MEANING OF JUSTICE.FOR EXAMPLE,IF A PERSON IS CONVICTED OF A CRIME AND IS SENENCED TO 2 YEARS IN PRISON, HIS OR HER SENTENCE SHOULD MEAN JUST THAT, DO YOUR TIME AND PAY YOUR DEBT TO SOCIETY, BUT IT DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE TO DO 2 YEARS, AND GET RAPED, AND GET AIDS, AND GET STABBED, AND ALL THE OTHER THINGS THAT COME ALONG WITH BEING IN SUCH A HOSTILE AND DANGEROUS ENVIROMENT. TO ALLOW PRISON'S TO GO ON LIKE THIS IS A SIN. ALL FREE PEOPLE WILL PAY FOR THIS IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. THAT IS WHY A JUDGE SHOULD USE DISCRETION WHEN SENTENCING A PERSON TO PRISON. SENDING SOMEONE FOR EVEN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME COULD MEAN THERE DEATH! WE HAVE TO FIND BETTER WAYS TO CONTROL OUR PRISON POPULATION, AND WE MUST PROVIDE HEALTH CARE FOR THOSE IN NEED.KEEP IN MIND A PERSON WHO IS RELEASED FORM PRISON COULD END UP WITH YOUR SON, DAUGHTER SISTER OR MOTHER! PERHAPS SEPERATIONG THOSE WHO ARE FIRST OFFENDERS AND NON VIOLENT.THIS ALONE COULD CUT DOWN ON SOME OF THE ISSUES LIKE RAPE AND EXPLOITATION OF THE WEAK.CUTTING DOWN ON VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSULTS WILL LEAD TO A HEALTHIER PRSION POPULATION.

Poor Healthcare in the FCI Prison located in Memphis, Tennesse

My father is incarcerated in the Federal Correctional Institution in Memphis, TN. He was stopped by the staff after a meal because it appeared to the officers that he had something in his pants, such as an onion. Upon searching him they discovered that the onion they thought he was trying to hide and sneek out was in fact a swollen testicle. The size of an onion. He had tried to get them to address this but like always they are not concerned, too busy, and have forgotten what it means to be human. Regardless of why he is in their and the term of his sentence should have no bearing on his receiving proper treatment as the Protocol and Rules and Regulations read for the FEDERAL PRISON SYSTEM. I have read them and they have not followed their own guidelines at all. He was examined and that was last October and here we are 5 months later and they still have yet to address the exact diagnosis, treatment and or surgery. He gets nothing for his constant pain, instead they decide to do dental work and pull 5 teeth. As if he isn't suffering enough and in pain they feel it is better than spending the money on the necessary and required tests and treatment for testicular cancer. Im willing to bet that is in whole due to the fact that he received a 30 year prison system making him in his late 80's when he will be released. They weigh the prison term the costs and whether or not its cheaper to give medical attention and treatment or cheaper to feed and house them and if they die from there medical problem before their release date that will have saved the Prison x amount of dollars. It is totally ludicrous to treat human beings this way, I pay taxes I try to treat others as I would want to be treated. When and why did the justice system and those who took an oath to serve protect etc sell out to the bureaucratic bull that the Government calls civil rights yet violates them everyday somewhere in a prison. The person who is suffering is someones son, father, grandfather, friend, and a human being who is being treated worse than an animal residing in the local dog pound. Even animals are treated for neglect and medical conditions regardless of there residence and whether or not they have a family-owner.

If you have any suggestions for me please contact me via E-mail and or US mail.

I thank you for your article, your support and for being honest. Unlike those who work in the prison system.

Health Care Issues in Jail/Prison

I would suggest to anyone who is facing healthcare issues in our jails or prisons to contact your state's Protection and Advocacy office. This is a federally funded initiative with a mission to help out with situations like the two postings, above. I am a former correctional nurse, and I know that they can get help started for your family.

Relative in the California Prison System

My relative is inmate in the California Prison System. He is also a former US Army Officer and a Vietnam War veteran. He has been denied healthcare by the State of California Prison System.

I had to write the Honorable Judge Henderson of the 9th Circuit Court as well as the Federal Overseer Mr. Clark Kelso to get him any help.

He almost died because of denial of healthcare. He has prostate cancer and has a carather. He has been in and out of medical facilities in the State of California for the last year and half.

He finally received surgery only to have it not go as well as it could.

He is a victim of cruel and usual punishment.

Also the State Atty General said the the overseer wanted gold plated facilities which is not true. He wants inmates who are US Citizens to have their constitional rights something the State of California is denying.

Forget GITMO we have a Gulag System right in the United States of America.
